“Perfect romantic getaway!”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

My husband looked high and low for a reasonable priced, but nice place to stay on the beach for a romantic getaway. When I found Inn at Discovery Coast online, I thought sure it was the place.....and it was!! The location was perfect. As close as you can get to the beach in Long Beach (though we did stay on the first floor and next time I would want to be higher, because we couldn't see much of the ocean over the dunes). The breakfast basket brought to our door each morning was a luxury! The only negative....we requested the romance package (fine chocolates, sparking cider or champagne, candles and rose petals) and it wasn't there upon our arrival. The staff was very apologetic when it was brought to their attention more than made up for the error. Oh and lastly, did I mention the jacuzzi tubs?!! Big enough for two. Love this place. Will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you can climb stairs, request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor for the best view.

The moment we walkewd inot the lobby, the place won us over. It had very cool and unpretentious vibe. The front desk staff greeted us as friends, and treated us with respect throughout the short, but thorough check in process. The complementary coffee was very rich flavored organice, starkly set apart from the usual lobby blends. The lobby also had a refrierator filled with micro brew beers, organic soft drinks and outstanding regional wines. They actually had healthy snack options available for purchase, as opposed to the usual high fat, high calorie foods.

The friendlyy room preparation staff made up our room into a cozy and welcoming weekend nest. The bathroom fixtures gleemed, several crisply cleaned towels towels were laid, and fresh white robes were hung on the door at our disposal. A bottle of cool water was set on the coffe table and fresh snacks and beverages were made availabe to us in the a samall, cute armoire closet. The bed was super comfortable and welcoming after a long wedding reception we attended. The signel cut red rose set on the clean white duvet bed cover won our hearts over.

We had a very quitet and comfortable nights lseep. We only wish we could have stayed more nights. We will be back for a longer stay, and we will recomend the Inn at Discovery Coast if we know of anyone interested in accomodations in the Long Beach area.

We stayed on the top floor end unit. The view is amazing, we left the sliding glass door open all night, the fresh air and sounds of the waves made for a peaceful sleep. The rooms look exactly like the pictures, very cozy and clean, we found the bed to be very comfortable. We really enjoyed the complimentary bikes, the discovery trail is wonderful. The breakfast basket is very yummy, the scones were so good. The staff was very helpful and courteous, yes there are some younger front desk clerks that have a bit of a attitude, but the wonderfuness of everything else makes up for it. Be aware the restaurants close down early 9pm, so eat out early or you'll be mc d in it for dinner.

The Inn at Discovery Coast is most definitely a work in progress. Whether the old rotting mattreses and soggy furniture stacked in the parking lot, the trendy semi finished look of the lobby or the grungy dressed staff, the hotel needs some lessons in service and followthrough.
We stayed in number 12 suite. A large room facing the southwest, so it was hot. No AC of course, no problem, let the ocean breeze in. But no cieling fan either, so hot..
Three of the four windows had broken cranks so we could not open the windows very far, except for the one that was so broken it swung wide. No window screens so all the horse flies from the local horse rides enjoyed the room with us.
A big deck facing the back of the adjacent unit, and to be fair a good view of the ocean and woods next door. Unless you were seated. The deck was surrounded by sheet plywood, I asume to block the wind, or block the view 100%
The window shades covering the un-crankable windows had a metal tube on the bottom which clanked all night as the wind blew in.
The door handle on the inside of the bathroom was broken, bathroom lights were burned out and the bed...ah yes the bed. A king sized futon that had been well used.
If you go to the website the place looks cool and eclectic. The cool is a veneer for cheaply thrown together, and the eclectic is just antique wannabe junky uncomfortable furniture and paint.
Poor maintenance, weak service(missed the tidy sign on the door), kids lacking guest service skills running the show.
Its always a treat to watch the kitchen staff and servers sitting next to the dumpster smoking.
Don't waste your hard earned on this place, too much hair gel to little polish. Go to Manzanita instead. Not as crowded as Cannon Beach, so much better than Long Beach, and great service and accomodations.
Cheers

Room Tip: Ask for top floor facing the ocean

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the inn in the studio room. It was the most amazing stay either of us has ever had. The room was beautiful. It had a extremely comfy bed and pillows, beautiful decor, and a huge two person jacuzzi tub. We really enjoyed the full private deck as well. The Inn provided a yummy breakfast basket that was brought right to your door step. The beach was within a short walking distance and the boardwalk was near by as well. We had a great dinner at the restaurant above the adrift, that had a beautiful view. I just really loved this place and I cannot wait to return!

We took our dog with us to the inn and the accomodations were very nice for us. We enjoyed having a seperate shower and tub in the bathroom. The room we had was very unique. We were quite pleased. We loved the hot tub! You can't beat how close it is to the beach! We just wish we could have stayed longer.

What a peaceful spot! Nice view of the beach - we had a second floor room. Loved being able to watch the horses coming over the dunes in the grass and hearing the birds in the tree next to the building. It's a short walk to the beach over the dunes, but the closest you will get in this area and well worth it. The rooms are little small, but clean and well appointed with everything you need for a lovely stay at the beach. We only stayed one night, because the place was booked the rest of the week - I definitely recommend at least 2 nights! The owners have done a nice job making this a cross between a B&B and hotel. The breakfast basket was yummy - wish it had a nice carafe of the coffee from the lobby with it - there was a little bit in the room with the coffee maker, but not enough. But free organic coffee and fruit infused water in the lobby of the sister hotel next door, and use of the bicycles there are really nice touches that show that the management is really thinking of the comfort and pleasure of the guests.
We will be back!

Room Tip: Choose an upper floor - we liked our middle room - double headed shower, but no tub - corner rooms...
