We recommended the Alley Cafe to meet some friends at and ended up being a little embarrassed. When we arrived we asked if our friends had arrived yet as they had the reservation. Were told oh yeah, they are in the other room, but were not directed there. They were not actually in the other room but hadn't arrived yet. The host was rather surly and unhelpful and appeared to us as if he had been drinking. When our friends did arrive we were finally seated and eventually got water. About 45 minutes later we finally got a drink order in and were able to order dinner. Our server was very busy with another huge group, but we still felt rather neglected. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time and was pretty decent. We have eaten here before numerous times but this was by far the worst experience. We will not recommend the Alley Cafe to friends in the future.

When visiting Leavenworth we always duck into the Alley Cafe to warm up with a bottle of wine and one of their wonderful appetizers while waiting for the Christmas Town Lighting ceremony to begin. The owner Steve is always the quintessential host and the staff is warm and friendly as well. It's a destination place while in Leavenworth!

We came in around 4:30 pm on a Saturday for dinner.. We were seated quickly but service was gruff and intermittent. We were absolutely starving and prepared to purchase several courses but left after appetizers due to a general sense of discomfort. We had been driving all day and had just walked a mile and a half in our hiking clothes from our B&B, perhaps we looked like we were unworthy of proper attention, who knows? Menus were literally tossed in the middle of the table, not handed over or friendly discussed. We were asked several times if we were ready to order with a curt " Are you ready?", no typical "can I take your order?" or "any questions on the menu?". We ordered two soups and the smoked salmon/brie plate. Soup (lobster bisque and minnestrone) was tepid but decent flavored. Salmon portion was large for the price but texture was odd and not as well flavored as smoked salmon that we have had in the past - would not reorder this dish. Again, we were prepared to order much more food but service stymied this. We were never asked how anything was, or if we needed anything else. Yet with all the "Are you ready?" inquires in the beginning, it certainly took awhile to receive the same courtesy when we wanted to leave. Surprisingly, an older couple across the way were fawned upon.. Hmmmm.,. I am not sure the restaurant in general is guilty of such one sided service or we just happened to walk in on the wrong night. Either way, we would not recommend this restaurant based on the experience that we had.

We live in Leavenworth but had not visited The Alley Cafe in a long time. For this area, Alley Cafe is a good alternative for Italian food. On a week day it was not busy. The food was plentiful. Minestrone soup could have used a bit more flavoring but was good. Parmesan cheese had to be requested and it should have been part of the soup and main course offering. The salad was plentiful. Our guests from the West side were very pleased with their choices of chicken and scallops.

My friend and I were in downtown Leavenworth waiting for live music to start up the road from The Alley Café. We were greeted at the door and requested their menu. We had already checked out a couple of restaurants downtown. The Alley Café had been recommended by staff at our resort. We had been snacking and sampling all day. We had even shopped the Farmer's Market. We wanted something light but filling. Their smoked salmon with baked brie and crostini platter filled the bill. I enjoyed my meal with a German Riesling recommended by our host. My friend ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio. The Café was decorated in an eclectic style that added a warm and elegant ambiance. Service was friendly and attentive. It made for a relaxing and enjoyable visit.
