Good beer, good brats and excellent atmosphere. Definitely stop here for a lunch hour or three if you find yourself in Leavenworth.

“This is where the locals go”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Great local beer from the icicle brewing company, just a standard brat but with all the fixings including dozens of different mustards. The atmosphere is fantastic, try going upstairs for a great view. I lived in Leavenworth for a summer and went to the Munchen Haus at least once a week.

“Very good”
Reviewed April 15, 2014 via mobile

This place was good. It had mainly bratwurst and hot dogs , but they have almost every kind of mustard and condiments to dress your dog up. The bean and ham soup was very tasty. Very entertaining to sit and watch the many touristwalk the streets of leavenworth

“Great place to visit”
Reviewed April 14, 2014

This is our favorite place in Leavenworth. Not because it’s the most “authentic”, but it’s a great place to have a good wurst and great beer.
The menu is very limited (wurst) but then that’s what they do well. A local butcher provides a variety of sausages (we like the Big Bob and the recent Beer Brat) and he does it well. You order your sausage(s) first, pay, and get a pager which informs you when the wurst is ready. In the meantime, you go inside (outside  ) and get your beer (soft drinks are ordered with the wursts). They have a variety of local brews from Icicle Brewing Company and a few German Beers. Depending on your taste, you pick one and the size of your glass…pint, ½ litre or full litre (almost). Costs are reasonable compared to the Seattle area and the beer is cold and fresh. Try the IPA, my favorite.
Seating is a little cramped sometimes, but do share a table with strangers and you almost always find some nice people to talk to.
Now here are some observations:
Is it a true German Beer Garden? No, it’s a US version of a Beer Garden in a town made to look like a Bavarian town (or what you think a Bavarian town would look like). So what…you sit outside, have some great food and good beer. If I want it to be 100% authentic, I will have to go to Bavaria.
Is the Bratwurst authentic? Well, again, the wurst is pretty good, not the Nuernberg quality, but pretty good. If you eat it as is, on the bun, with just some sweeter ground mustard, it’s pretty close. But if you add one of the 25 mustards they have, and have the audacity to add sauerkraut on top… you are way off and no longer authentic.  But then…go for the taste, some of those mustards are incredible and worth a try.
The music. Well, the music is a something “interesting”. It’s a mix of some pseudo German /Bavarian Music, some American/Bavarian/Polka music and sometimes a regular song mix in. Certainly nothing to get up, stand on the table and wave your steins ala Oktoberfest, for, but if you consider it “background music” it’s ok.
Overall, we have fun, prices are decent compared to the other restaurants, food is good, beer is good, and people are nice.
On weekends and during festivals it can be a bit crowded and as it is an outdoor place, in the fall it can get chilly. They’ve added some tables with gas burners in the middle, which might be great during fall and evenings.
