“We stayed during Christmas Lighting Ceremony Weekend”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

We rented a deluxe cabin with a bathroom during the last Christmas weekend. The cabin was clean, stocked with dishes and had a queen, two bunks and a double futon. The only complaint in our group was that the beds were not the best. Our queen did at least have springs. Unfortunately, the springs squeaked loudly every time we moved an inch on the bed. Other complaints were that the mattresses were covered in a plastic and make laying on them hot, hot as in a sauna. The other beds were hard as concrete according to my kids.

The only other complaint we had was the roads were not maintained during our stay and were coated with ice. Getting to our cabin up a steep hill proved to be a challenge with the ice and getting down the stairs and hill to our car proved to be another. Apparently even though they rent cabins during this time, the office is not staffed in normal hours.

We would use the cabins again but come prepared since now we know what to expect for the summer.

We decided to bring our teardrop trailer for Oktoberfest. We got a spot in the "Meadow" Electric hookup. Clean, nice location, just short of a mile walk to Leavenworth. (we loved that) Only bummer was the BOOM BOOM BOOM of music an RV or two away into the night. (1am). However this was a "Festival" weekend. The cabins look cute and we might drive back to check them out this winter. =) ****Side note-we had to cancel one night ahead of time. I phoned twice to make sure they knew. Unfortunately they lost our cancelation. Might want to phone a few times to secure change in plans****

Stayed at one of their cabins for Oktoberfest and found them to be very clean and having the full bathroom and kitchen was a bonus. Shuttle to the town was a little inconsistent. Did not use many of the amenities and the breakfast on the weekend was not told to us by the staff. Nice and quite place to stay.

My husband, three boys (9, 6 & 3), and I, all had a GREAT time here. It felt like kids summer camp, but for parents too! The staff was all very friendly and helpful. We loved the on-site playground, pool, hot tub (adults only) and river!! Movie night was fun too. There is also an area with a bunch of big rocks that the kids were having a lot of fun climbing on. My kids made lots of friends while we were there and my oldest two enjoyed riding the rental bikes around. (They loved the 4-wheeler pedal bikes! **Beware of the steep hill around the backside closest to the river! Fun, but a bit dangerous.**) The espresso stand was very convenient and the drinks were pretty good, although **note that no matter what size you get, you will get a max of 2 shots of espresso.** Having the river tubing company on-site was a definite bonus. It is expensive, but for us, it was well worth it. It was the highlight of our trip! :) (Bring some seal-able snacks and drinks in a plastic bag. Make sure you have sunglasses, sun block, etc.) The on-site store had a lot of convenient items at fair prices. There is also a path behind the upper cabins that goes over all small hill and straight to the backside of Safeway. It's about a 5-minute walk from the cabins. The only "complaint" I had (4 stars instead of 5), is that through our own observation, we noticed a few occasions when the management didn't treat the employees very well, and were more concerned with business/money than overall customer satisfaction/transparency. I get that business is business, but when you're in the business of >people< you just can't think like that or treat employees like that. The employees are the face of your business and they were awesome throughout. KEEP THEM HAPPY!!!! Also, the garbage's really need to be emptied more frequently. Especially after a busy weekend.

We have stopped at this KOA every year for 30+ years. It was always one of our extended family's favorite stops. Things seem to be different this year. The free firewood is no more, the traditional Saturday night hayride eliminated. The pool is a little colder, some of the cable channels have disappeared, the garbage piles up. There's less staff around, particularly at the beginning of quiet hours. It's still a nice KOA, it just feel less friendly than in years gone by. It's an expensive RV park, the added amenities used to make it worth it.

We enjoyed the pool and the AWESOME beach by the river. We went tubing (super fun) and found the camp store useful and reasonable. After a long day of packing/travel we decided to take advantage of the free/convenient shuttle into town. Unfortunately, driver "forgot" to make the 8:45pm pick-up run on Saturday, Aug 17th...and they didn't answer any of the 10-15 phone calls we made to the KOA from town. It was pretty rough on our kids (8 and 10) after a long day of loading a motor home, traveling to Leavenworth and walking all over town...to then walk the 2+ miles in the dark back to the KOA...made increasingly scary due to all the drunks on the roads following the wine festival that day. Note: Make sure you get one of the worker's actually cell number BEFORE using the shuttle. The rest of the week, we rode our bikes into town each day...there's a cool short-cut through a meadow that makes it really quick and easy to get to town on bikes. I know we were there during a busy time of the year, but they really cram in the sites...one can easily hear everything going on in neighboring sites...snoring, someone's late night viewing of "The Simpsons Movie", various body functions, etc. All-in-all, a pretty good stay...you can't beat the location near town and right on the river, but that first night was pretty rough. Manage your expectations and check other reviews.

The night staff was so bad, it was actually funny. Rude, amazingly unprofessional and lazy. They were there to goof around and wait until quitting time. On top of that we waited an hour and a half to get them to deliver our wood, reminding them 3 times. All this combined with the most expensive camping site I've ever paid for. We camped in many different campgrounds on our trip and this was the only one I have bad things to say about. The site was ok, as is the location. This was the first time I stayed at a KOA, and will be hard pressed to stay at another.
