Downtown Leavenworth is a Bavarian themed tourist village. They are big on beer, bratwurst & sausage. So I wasn't expecting much from a "Thai & sushi place" here. You have to go through the hallway of a Cajun type restaurant & go downstairs, past some rooms barred & padlocked. I almost turned around before getting to Wasabi.
My wife & I split some pad Thai & a couple of rolls. Now, we don't agree on spice level, so the waitress suggested the pad Thai with no heat, & a side of pepper flakes for me. Perfect (& appreciated) solution. The rolls were fresh & plentiful.
The atmosphere was not great...typical faux Asian decor. There was a malfunctioning fridge in the bar area that kept cycling on & off: the noise was annoying. And there was a broom, dustpan & shop vac sitting out at the end of the bar, visible to the dining tables.
But the food & service more than made up for the weird vibe of the place itself. So when you've had your fill of fatty sausages & want something lighter, Wasabi is a gem.
