Since the city took over this park, it is much improved and better maintained. All it needs now is a boat launch and dock.

No play structure here, but several different pathways through wetlands to viewing structures over the water where you might see osprey, great blue heron, swans, eagles, turtles sunning themselves, beaver dams, and numerous waterbirds. Interesting educational signs are posted throughout. Great for photographers, somewhat boring for little kiddos -- wish it had a play structure as well to reward them for their patient nature watching.

Juanita Bay Park is nestled in what seems a busy area of Kirkland. But, when you are in the park, you do not experience the hustle and bustle at all. What you experience at Juanita Bay Park is a quiet, serene and tranquil walk in a natural setting.

Yes, there are times when it appears that it is busy, but walk deeper into the park along the different trails and walkways and you will find your own little peaceful spot to watch the beauty of the wildlife that emerges as you relax. You will hear the birds calling, the bees buzzing, the water splashing and other little creatures enjoying the day.

A camera is a must! Don't be intimidated by the professional looking contraptions people bring to take pictures! I have a camera that fits in the palm of my hand and I have great pictures of this place. If you do have a professional contraption - I envy you - you will have fantastic pictures of this place.

Binoculars are optional but highly useful to see all the nooks and crannies of this wonderful park. You can spend as much or as little time as you wish here. But no matter what, you will always leave with a new appreciation of the little natural wonder called Juanita Bay Park.

Lana G!
