I wish Trip Advisor had halves, as I would've given the place a 2.5. We are new to the area and were looking for a nice water front restaurant for us to have a lovely night out. We picked this one for it's location and the reviews on TA, but, for the first time, TA reviews didn't seem to hit the mark, at least for us.

The restaurant IS on the waterfront and that's lovely. From the get-go, I can tell you one of the issues is lack of management. I never saw anyone over the age of about 25 and, while all very sweet and competent, the lack of mature leadership was evident.

We were sat in a lovely window seat, until we looked out the window. There was a spider web on the outside of the window that stretched over the entire window an had at least 50 dead gnats in it. It was very disgusting. It would've been an easy fix, but no one had bothered to take the time.

I will say that we did NOT have the experience some of the earlier reviewers had, everyone that waited on us was attentive and they saved the review (would've been a one without them). Bread was delivered promptly when we arrived and it had a tasty butter tapenade type spread. The bread, though, was tough and not cut through and we had to wrestle with it to get a piece off the whole.

We ordered a filet, a flat bread and a kid's pasta with butter.

The filet was bland and without flavor and the risotto was not properly cooked. The kids pasta with butter was actually far more in that it included parmesan and grilled chicken, neither of which my child wanted (the menu clearly said Penne with butter, not sure why they upgraded). I had the flatbread. This was the BIGGEST letdown. It was, basically a pizza, not flat bread, and was under cooked. The tomato sauce was without taste and the onions were raw and overwhelming. It was definitely NOT any good and I would be embarrassed to serve it.

Again, for the caliber, price points and profile of the restaurant, I would've expected a manager or some sort of senior person to be onsite, checking on the tables, but there was not. We left with out much of a goodbye and paid the $5 valet fee (tip not included:)).

If this had been a casual lower end restaurant I would've been satisfied, but probably would not have returned. BUT, at the level that it is, it was very disappointing.

“Wine & food good, service pretty bad”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2013

Likes - extensive wine selection, great views of Lake Washington, nice decor, good food and some nice "little plates" to snack on.

Dislike - bad, bad service. I mean really bad. Rarely saw our waitress, got one order wrong, and worse...... Example - waitress told us of a couple of wine "specials" including a "nice cab" and like most people we expected the price per glass to be probably a bit high but within a reasonable range, e.g., $15-$20/glass at a place like this. So we ordered a couple of glasses with our meal. Okay, so it was very good and we ordered 2 more glasses, and finally one more glass that we split. Then and only then did our server decide to mention that the "special" cab that we were ordered was $60/glass! Sorry folks, but a good server should have made that clear at the beginning. Should we have asked? Maybe, but as I said I think a reasonable person would be okay assuming $15-$20/glass. But $60? Complained to the manager and he comp'd the last glass..... Big deal.

“Brussel sprouts? Yes!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

If you are offered the brussel sprout appy, please say yes, as you will never have had the likes of these delicious morsels. The menu is varied but not extensive enough to be oppressive, and includes many local fresh ingredients, including home grown mushrooms and salmon in season. The wine list is complementary but not too cheap, and the view of the lake while dining is hard to beat. A good choice for dinner in Kirkland.

“Good food, ok server~”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

We had a nice meal here. We had to move, as our table was positioned right outside
of the servers doors and they squeaked! (Ever heard of WD-40?)! The only downside
was that we saw very little of our waiter and he never once asked how our meal was.
The person filling the water glasses did inquire, which was nice! We had eaten last
week at the restaurant just adjacent, which was a much nicer experience, even though
it is a more casual place. There was a point at which the people across the way broke
a bottle of wine, so that did interrupt our experience a bit with people scurrying around
trying to clean up the mess. Good food is a must, be mediocre service makes it less
of an experience. I am sure we will give this place another try because the view is spectacular.

“This is simply one of our favorite places to dine....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

This is simply one of our favorite places to dine. We would come more often if it were closer to our home, but as it is we seem to manage to make it about once every couple months. The menu is quite interesting and eclectic (a bit of a focus on "game" type foods, such Rabbit and Venison) if limited. What is there though is delicious! The ambiance is perfect for upscale casual dining...the dining room is smaller than most "hotel restaurants", and is shaped as an "L", giving it a natural "divide" that makes it even more intimate. Usually it is fairly quiet (though not tomb like), which lends itself to conversation. And if you ask for it they can provide a table with a view of the lake and skyline! I highly recommend!!
