This fall we took friends from TN here for something to do on a rainy day and everyone loved it. The husband served on aircraft carrier during Vietnam war and he could not get enough of the exhibits for that period while I was enthralled with submarine exhibits. Great for all ages and tastes.

Hey you can't beat free, and actually very interesting exhibitions. It has some pretty neat items from submarines and you will get a taste of life in a metal tube for months at a time. Have taken several family members from out of town there and they have all enjoyed it very much. Clever gift shop as well with plenty of submarine memorabilia. Good couple of hours.

Museums are not always my thing, but I do find myself going to the ones that look interesting. The Naval Undersea Museum fit the bill for my trip. Some military things are more interesting than others in the place, but for no charge to get in (donations accepted), it's a fun place to spend an hour or 2. Even if you go by when they are closed they have some huge military vehicles outside you can take a look at and give yourself a stretch. The most interesting area I found to be was the room that told about naval life when our guys are out to sea. It makes you appreciate them even more. Other exhibits include a torpedo area with some interesting videos and an area that gives you an idea what it's like to be in a submarine. The museum is a few minutes off the beaten path, but it's definitely worth going out of the way for.

The museum is small, but there are a lot of exhibits that show what Navy life is like. As stated in my title, admission is free. The museum covers everything from life on the boat, to what is like for family members, to the history of submarines. Considering there is such a large Navy presence in the area, I think this is a great way to learn more about this branch. There is a section for kids to try on outfits and have hands on play with various nautical themed toys and games.
