“In town for business”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

Returned back to Hawthorn suites for business. The room had been refreshed and was a good noticeable difference. Clean room with a nice bed to sleep in. Shower and bathroom was clean and had a spacious kitchen area for those who want to cook in the room. Used the gym facilites this time that had enough equipment. The location is great for me being close to work and a short drive to the mall and resturants. Thanks.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs have less noise than the downstairs ones.

Check in was good, front desk people are nice and apologetic. We watched 4 sets of people check in and three of the four asked questions and were told "sorry there are new policies" to different issues. I got the feeling policies change a lot, so I would check first on the things important to you. That may or may not help. We asked for and then later reconfirmed a late check out and neither was recorder so it caused stress when they thought I should be gone. I was waiting for my husband to finish training and be able to pick me up at two. There is not much in the area just a couple restaurants in walking distance. We spent 3 nights and I would not stay again. We have been debating buying into Windham, I doubt we will now.

The good & bad: We DID NOT HAVE INTERNET access all four days and made three calls to hotel desk. We were sent to tech support who said it was on the hotels end, and then hotel said they'd let us know when it was up but we never heard after that. We had planned to add a night but didn't since we couldn't keep in touch with work and we weren’t comfortable anyway. The room was well laid out and had a nice TV on a swivel you could see almost anywhere in the room (but you had to be sitting up in bed because it was low). There is pretty basic cable and 1 HBO channel. There is no DVD as they want to up sell their own movies which we did out of boredom and cost another $15. If we had had either a DVD or internet we wouldn't have used them so I felt like that charge was a bit unfair. The pool and hot tub both are SEASONAL meaning they were not open at all and it is late May, call ahead. It was almost 70 on the day we arrived. I kind of get the pool but really felt the hot tub should be an option. It is pretty small for a large complex so we may not have gotten to use it anyway. The grounds are lovely!

It has a nice little apartment size kitchen (but it is not stocked well, ours didn't even have any plates just a couple saucers. 1 teeny fry pan and no casserole dish or cookie sheet so I have no idea how one would use the oven). It did have enough glasses and silverware serving for 4, but just one knife. Seating was plenty, and bathroom was nice spacious and clean. The spots you would most want clean were clean. Things like the bed and seating. However other areas were not, things like curtains, windows & sills, under bed etc. It didn't feel like DEEP cleaning gets done. The beds are only queens we didn't know I would get to tag along, not the hotels fault but I would have canceled had I know ahead of time we couldn't upgrade. The bed was small for both of us, and we are average sized but used to a king. It sagged some in the middle adding to our bumping into each other. The sheets would not stay on as elastic was totally shot, and there was a feather bed type topper that was very lumpy so we took it off. The rooms are noisy. Not from road noise but from normal footsteps upstairs (nice people, they were trying) and a bad gutter that left rain pouring on the cement, sounding like you were in a waterfall all night and it was only raining lightly. The property is more like apartments, and hotels are usually cement so other that doors I don't usually have a big problem with average noise.

I would recommend this hotel only to people who are not picky at all and plan to sleep alone or are used to sharing a full/queen. It would be good for people who need a kitchen but just for super basic cooking, like stovetop and microwave. It would also be good for those who don't plan to be in much, or need much entertainment/internet. It wasn't the worst but I felt sad as it has so much untapped potential.

Room Tip: Email ahead and ask about things that are important to you ahead of time to be sure you will have it...

The room did not have all of the supplies, shampoo, soap in the room. The dishes were in the dishwasher and not clean, dirty paper towel in the microwave. The bed sagged terribly in the middle. Will not stay there again.

Room was very spacey with full kitchen, fireplace, (to hot for fireplace) couch. Had a shuttle that would take us to and from anywhere in a 5 mile radius for free. Front staff was very good and helpful. The breakfast was hot and ready. Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, toast, ect. The orange juice tasted like Tang. Overall was a good free breakfast. We were here in May and they had record high temperatures, and the swimming pool and hot tub was covered and not service. I was disappointed because it was so hot that weekend and pool would of been nice.

Room Tip: Check to see if pool is available
