“You won't find another place like this!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

My husband and I live near Issaquah, so we've enjoyed eating at XXX a number of times. For the atmosphere and decor, there's nothing like it. (The other reviews describe this well.) The huge outdoor seating area is great when the weather cooperates, but indoors is really fun because of all the great stuff to look at.

I wish they would prepare people better for their unusually restrictive payment policy of no debit or credit cards. And they charge $2 extra if you want to share any of the burgers on the menu. All I saw was a small sign on the door, and I didn't even notice that until we left. But if you can get past all that, I want to talk about the food.

I must admit that I haven't had a lot of different things on the menu. That's because their famous XXX Burger is really amazing. The thing is about 6" in diameter (see picture, which doesn't really do it justice) and must have a pound of meat in it. My husband and I always spit it and it's still a huge meal. And it's not just the size that's notable, but the bun is some kind of warm toasty (homemade? I'm not sure) thing that is a nice change. And the XXX burger has grilled onions along with the other ingredients. Their fries are crispy on the outside--very good. Even after you pay the $2 splitting fee, it's a good bargain for feeding two people.

Now, the ice cream. In the past, we've had their HUMUNGUS root beer floats, which are really fun. Last night we both had ice cream on the brain, so we ordered a banana split to share. The menu boasts that their shakes and malts are made with premium Darigold ice cream, so we were really disappointed that the banana split was made with soft serve ice cream! I could hardly distinguish the ice cream from the whipped cream-it was so soft. Really a letdown. I won't make that mistake again.

“It put a smile on our faces!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Just by chance we stopped at XXX Rootbeer on our way back to Seattle on Labor Day weekend. What fun ! Travel back in time to the 50s and 60s. The atmosphere is great...memorabilia everywhere, fun music, friendly staff. The place was Hoppin'! We sat inside but the line for food at the large outside seating was busy too! Besides the fun burgers and probably the best root beer float I've had in a long time...there was a great car show going on in the parking lot right outside. A definite blast from the past! And we were in and out in no time and back on the road. FYI: They don't take credit cards but they've got an ATM.

“a must-visit, but take CASH”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

it was a little late to tell us, once they'd given us the bill, that this place doesn't take credit cards. Cash only ("or check" - who carries a checkbook these days?!)
This is a novelty place that's worth going just for a rootbeer float. But they're gigantic, so we shared them. We also shared the hotdogs, which are foot-longs.
Cool ambiance, fun experience .... but load up on cash before you go!

“Rip off owners! I took my daughter and her friend on our way back to Ellensburg. We ordered two rootbeers then looked at the me”

Good service. That's about it. I wrote my review above on accident. That space was just supposed to be the title of my review. It really just made me angry that he is making money from the atm. The prices of his food are high enough. It's too bad cause its a cool place, but I won't go to a place that I know is ripping people off. Even if it is only a couple of dollars.

“Caution--this food may be hazardous to your health (but sooooo good!)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

Looking for something different and local? Don't care about hard arteries? Well then XXX Rootbeer is your place. We always enjoy finding local eateries to try, and not the same-everywhere chains. XXX Rootbeer is one such place. The decor is real and retro 50s/60s. The owner is obviously a classic car enthusiast. The tables are the best Formica and chrome from the 50s. The food is down to earth classic heart attack hamburgers and fries. The menu is extensive but don't expect to find anything healthy, just slam-dunk tasty. At the minimum, try their root beer float.

You can eat inside or outside and they have a take-out area (no drive through that we saw). Parking is easy. Very family friendly and biker friendly (both peddle power and hogs).
