There are 2 lighthouses in Ilwaco. This is the easiest one to get to. (The other is a 3/4 mile hike). You must pay the Washington State park $10 a day parking fee / or $30 annual pass fee to access either. This is available at the Cape Dissapoint State Park ranger station at the entrance to the park. (just down a little from the lighthouse road.)
At the North Head lighthouse parking, it is an easy walk to the lighthouse and other trails are available to explore. In the summer season, you can pay to go inside the lighthouse.
The old lighhouse keepers homes are also available as vacation rentals. Spendy, but we stayed there once and enjoyed it.

Great views, beautiful lighthouse. Quick walk from the parking lot. You have to pay to go up in the lighthouse which seems kind of silly.

The first day we drove up I had forgotten about the Discover Pass, and had not purchased one. So the next day I purchased one at Dennis Co. in Long Beach. Then come to find out that I could have purchase a Discover Pass right there!? It would have been nice to have known that the day before!? That aside, we ventured down a gravel path through a wooded area to be greeted by some spectacular views! The lighthouse was not open to go inside. But who wants to be inside with views like this!?

I've read some reviews of folks who've gone to the lighthouse from the parking lot and appreciated the views. It does have a great view, for sure, but the best way to get to it is from the beach! My youth group makes the trek up the rocks and up the steep trail of grassy hills up to the top. It takes about a half hour, and if you start with the tide in, you'll get wet. but if you leave around 11 am, you'll get to the top the hard way, but you'll appreciate it more. Also, there's a trailhead near the parking lot. To get back to the beach, we go off-trail down an incredibly steep, but safe hill about a half mile from the start. Thrill quotient: nice.

Nice loop trail around the lighthouse that's easy enough for anyone to enjoy. Beautiful setting with views down to the rocky shoreline.
