Eileen and I have visited this place many times, and still find it a most delightful site to stay at. The beaches are long and very quiet. The lighthouses afford great views of the Columbia Bar, and on occasions one can watch the Coast Guard training in the surf. Ilwaco offers fresh caught fish, crabs, eat there or take them back to camp.

A great interpretive center on the Lewis and Clark expedition. I think even better than Fort Clatsop. Beautiful views that give you a real sense of their reaching the Pacific and the dangers of the mouth of the Columbia River. The hike to the lighthouse is steep but worth it.

Stop to see what Lewis and Clark saw in their epic 1804-1806 epic trip. The interpretative Center is wonderful, the park is clean and secure. We own a vacation rental in Seaview,Wa and we direct our guests there......take a walk on the jetty[ get a jacket..] or on the beach.

I've stayed at just about every state campground in Washington state and this is a wonderful park in terms of location and activities. However, while not expecting five star restrooms, I did not expect the strong smell of urine and backed up toilets. I didn't expect on numerous occasions, every time I tried to use one, the flooded puddles of poop encrusted toilet paper or overflowing toilets with tampons someone stupidly flushed. Most campgrounds do have their restrooms cleaned but it seemed nothing more than the swish of the poop water all over. Highly disappointed. Also, make sure to book the sites AWAY from the river and into the park more because these sites were horrible. Ours was unkept, unmowed near a slab of cement, that had blackberry bushes growing from it. I got the impression of a homeless camp here as there was no privacy and the "view" of the unusable river wasn't worth the homeless camp feeling as you're right on top of other campers. Overall, park is great but the campground was a huge disappointment.

My husband and I decided to try a yurt for a weekend instead of a motel so we chose a yurt at Cape Disappointment State Park. We have a lot of camping gear but no tent so this work good for us. We loaded up the gear and our motorcycle in the bike trailer and headed to the coast.

First of all, the park is really very beautiful; clean, expansive with tons of places to walk. The yurts are set up in circles with about 8 to a circle and a few tent sites thrown in. Each yurt area is pretty roomy so we weren't right on top of the one next door. We parked on a long paved strip. The yurt has a little deck that was partially covered. There is a cement pad with a picnic table and firepit. This is nice and kept it from being muddy around the firepit.

The yurt itself was fine for the 2 of us. Very simple ameneties, one electric plug in, a small heater and a light. There is a sky light in the center which is great for light during the day but has no cover so it's like a search light in your face as soon as the sun rises in the morning. There is bunkbed ( double bed with single on top) and a futon, a small table and chairs and a side table by the bed and that's about it. We were very close to a restroom that had one coin operated shower. We were about a 5 minute walk to the beach entrance. The beds were very hard so bring pads or something to cushion them if you want to be comfortable.

This would be a very fun place to go with friends. But you need to rent them way in advance to secure yurts next to each other.
There were lots and lots of mosquitoes so the first thing we did after we checked in was to head back to the park store and buy bug spray. The park store/ laundry mat is very handy for snacks and small things you may have forgotten to pack. We bought our firewood there. There is also a small pizza take out and delivery place at the park. We brought our own food and didn't try it but thought it was a pretty cool option.

Unfortunately for us the weather was awful and it pretty much poured most of the time that we we were there. It was too wet to use the fire pit or the picnic table so we set up a folding table under the cover on the deck and used our portable grill to cook there. We ended up playing a lot of cribbage and listening to our I pod when we would rather have been out exploring but at least we were warm and cozy and all in all it was still way better than being in a wet tent. This is not our first time to the area so we have explored a lot before (luckily)
On a sunny weekend there is so much to do there; playing on the beach, walking the trails, going to the lighthouses, driving into Long beach and exporing the area and then enjoying your firepit in the evening. On a wet weekend not so much unless you are prepared to be dripping wet or stuck in the yurt. I would certainly try it again and am interested in researching yurts at other State parks for a future vacation. Try it ! It's fun!
