“Clean, complete, relaxing place to stay”
Reviewed September 7, 2009

My husband and I stayed at Glen Ayr only for one night while driving around Hood Canal. The manager, Jo, was such a joy and had a fabulous voice (as we found during the Karaoke night in the motel's community room). Her family was very friendly as well. The whole place is neat as a pin from the room, eight-person hot tub, walkways, landscaping, community grilling, and gazebo. The motel has a private dock and beach access across the street - also very clean. They rent crab pots and you can fish from the deck. I wish we could have stayed a few days longer!

We spent 2 nights in a "suite" here, after reading the positive reviews. Like others, we found the suite to be spacious and well appointed, the beds very comfortable, the kitchen practical, the grounds and buildings carefully maintained, everything clean, and the staff very gracious. They even have a convenient outdoor cooking setup for shellfish, and will lend a cooking pot for boiling your crabs.

Things to do while here:

Cushman Dam tour (free, but you need to make a reservation by calling Tacoma Public Utilities.)

Staircase hikes - beautiful, and the rangers are very friendly, but get directions if you've never been there, as signage to this particular entrance to the Olympic National Park could be better. (Additional hiking trails are also available in the area.)

Potlatch State Park - big play meadow area, picnic tables, wading beach.

Diving - Octopus Hole, 2-1/2 miles north, is great; diving off the resort's dock is not especially exciting.

We stayed at the Glen Ayr for one night earlier this month and found it to be perfectly suited for our needs: a clean, quiet place to rest and do our laundry. The room was spacious and spotless, with a great view of the Hood Canal (too bad it was mostly obscured by the fog and rain).

I have to put in a word about the laundry facilities (as mundane a subject as that may be): They were great. Huge washers and dryers at very reasonable prices. Kudos!

We spent this last weekend at the Glen Ayr Canal Resort and had a wonderful time. The resort consists of 14 motel units (each with a balcony view of the gorgeous Hood Canal in Washington state’s Puget Sound), the building behind the motel has 3 “suites” with living areas and kitchens or kitchenettes, and beside the motel are several RV spots. There is even a dock on the canal to moor your boat. This resort is exceptionally clean and the grounds are well cared for. It feels like everyone is family here and each time we visit (this is our 3rd trip) it’s harder to leave. The staff is very responsive, helpful and willing to accommodate. You will truly enjoy your stay here if you are expecting a small, family run business and not a five star Hilton hotel and spa.

The double queen motel rooms are quite roomy. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. (Thank you Sally!) There is a mini fridge, mini coffee maker, nice blow dryer, television, and table with 2 chairs, (but no microwave). The balconies have resin chairs and beautiful views. The water pressure is not great, but there was always hot water and plenty of nice towels (not thin cheap ones). The single queen rooms weren’t as roomy, but rooms #1 and #2 have million dollar views.

At the center of the resort is a grassy area with a covered gazebo that could seat around 30 people at picnic tables, and a BBQ area with 2 or 3 gas grills. They also have coin-op laundry, a clubhouse with a billiard table, large television, and game tables. There is also a gazebo with a hot tub, but we’ve not made it in there to check it out yet.

And we particularly enjoy the amenities they have for the SCUBA DIVERS who stay here. There is a deck with a rinsing tub and hoses and a heated drying shed (that is locked with a code) to keep your gear in. You can even purchase air fills for $4 and a dive shop will pick up your tanks at night and fill them and have them back in the morning for you. Even after you check out that morning, you can use the showers in the clubhouse after your dive, and rinse your gear before you leave. It is a great location if you’re diving Octopus Hole or Sund Rock.

We really love this little gem of a resort. The cancellation policy seemed a little strict, so take notice of it when you book, but with being a small business I can see why it would need to be. Can’t wait to go back and bring more family, hopefully we can stay in the townhouse suite which I toured and it was REALLY nice. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

We stayed out here for my husbands birthday. The staff in their emails setting all this up were quite helpful. The room we rented was the townhome. It was amazing.. Very clean and well stocked Master bedroom only had a queen bed as the other bedroom had a king which was wierd. But easily over looked.
Our friends took the regular hotel rooms. which were huge. and very clean.. The staff was friendly and the hot tub was unbelievable.
They have this great dock belonging to the hotel that we went and sat on.. we missed a family of nine seals. but others saw them.right there on the deck at night.
The view is amazing and most of all hoodsport smells good.

It has a very friendly family owned feeling(which I tihnk it was) and everyone in the RV's and other rooms were all friendly so it made for one giant fun weekend.

and most of all it's very kid friendly:) and my kids can't wait to go back.

  • Liked — the staff
  • Disliked — i was too short for the mirrors in the bathroom

Clean and comfortable. Right on Hood Canal. Great for scuba divers as they let you wash and dry your equipment on the property.

I have no idea how long this resort has been in business but it looks brand new. It's perfectly maintained, has RV spots, a dog walking area (dogs not allowed in the rooms) a main motel room building, a separate hot tub building, a BBQ area, and a game room in the main club house complete with a small library of books to read. In addition, there is a private dock for mooring boats overnight and they have built a picnic area adjacent to the dock so you can eat outside and enjoy the canal view.

This resort caters to divers and from the minute we drove in, we were treated like royalty. We got one of the rooms upstairs with a view of the canal, the day manager told us about all the features of the hotel and best of all, we were offered the use of the rinse hoses and a heated shop for washing and hanging our dive gear overnight. We were also told that if we were diving after check out, we were still welcomed to come back and rinse our gear before we drove for home. That's taking care of your guests!!

Best of all, the rooms were spotless, the beds comfortable and it made you feel like being at home. I'll go back in a heartbeat and highly refer anyone to this resort, especially if they are divers. One of the best and cleanest places I've ever stayed. :-}
