Burger was ballpark quality! Service was excellent, fast and friendly! A great place to stop on the way in or out of the Hoh Rainforest! All types of beverages, hot or cold, and bottled water available! Touristy souvenirs! Hours of operation can vary widely!

I must say I was just a little bit skeptical as we pulled up to the convenience store/snack bar. We were looking for the restaurant that was advertised about 5 miles back. Of course, this snack bar is in the middle of no where, so it seemed. However, we were in for a treat. After we got over the initial shock of the Yeti on the front porch with a big smile on his face we were quite pleased with the place. The lady/owner behind the counter was so very nice and she fixed the best veggie burger I have ever eaten. We will definitely go back again when we are in the area!

Owned and operated by Anna and Christian Matsche, the same folks that own and operate Rainforest Paddlers, Inc., the Hard Rain Cafe is one of those real "finds" that you feel so lucky to have wandered into! It is tiny, with seating for diners (a total of about four tables) on the front porch. However, it's the kind of place where you'd be glad to pull up the front steps to enjoy your food when things get busy!

The food is very simple -- burgers, fries, onion rings, etc. We had the salmon burgers and they were scrumptious!

The Cafe is about halfway between the highway and the Rainforest entrance, so a great place to grab a bite on the way in or out. Great prices, too!

Don’t you just love the name of this restaurant?! Located in the Hoh Rain Forest on the west (rainy) side of Washington state’s Olympic Peninsula, this is a delight. The cafe is several miles in from Hwy. 101 on the Upper Hoh Rd. (the north road).

I’ve seen this referred to as Hard Rain Cafe and Mercantile, which tells it all. It's the only restaurant for miles around. You can buy a simple lunch such as a burger, plus film, t-shirts, batteries, mosquito spray, children’s toys, local art, cold bottled pop, hats, ice cream, souvenirs -- what don’t they have? There are lots of interesting vintage metal retail signs and fun pun statements on the walls.

The weekday afternoon I was there, I chatted with the lady of the house who’s bright, cheery and welcoming. I got a burger, which was very tough and almost flavorless, but I also got a pre-packaged frozen sundae ice cream cone which was yummy.

The surrounding scenery is entirely bucolic and quiet, and as you sit out on the open porch eating, you kind of expect a bear or a mountain lion to walk out of the forest and say howdy. Or maybe a unicorn. Peaceful, beautiful. A perfect place to stop and rest a spell.
