Okay...so we went to The Historic Mint Restaurant tonight for our (26th) anniversary. Let me begin by saying that the old " The Mint" was my favorite for food and I was so sad it closed. They had things you could not get anywhere else. So we decided to go for our anniversary for the first time since they reopened and my son recommended their spicy, blue cheese, bacon burger which was not on the menu, because it was a special when he was there before. So we asked if it was possible to get and the waitress (who was awesome) said sure! And it was awesome! I had the house salad and it was huge and great and I asked for Blue Cheese Dressing and she said regular Blue Cheese or Smoked Blue Cheese...I tried the Smoked Blue Cheese and it was yummy! (I noticed on a lot of their products they feature Beecher Cheese) We also had a pound of "braised" clams which were absolutely amazing!! The broth had bacon and herbs and beer...yum!! My husband had the French dip which was really good, but here is the better in all ways but one! part....The bread is as good as before, but not as big. I would have had my usual order of BLT but my son warned me it wasn't on the bread roll but on sourdough, and although the French dip was still on a great roll, it was not as big, but it was still good. So I miss the Mint's classic BLT on a roll, but they still have the pizza bread (which I still need to try), and their specials are awesome! My husband had the Cream of Chanterelle Mushroom soup with his entrée and it was fantastic! The best thing, which is too late for us, is that kids can now go in until 9:00 pm and eat. And...did I say how fabulous the service was? They must have 10 employees working, between bar, cooking, cleaning, and waiting....And of course they have a ton of beers, hard alcohol and wine. The prices are pretty much on par with today's prices, but they have a fantastic happy hour from 3-6 pm which we will definitely hit next time we go!

The Mint restaurant has re-opened after being closed for just about a year, with new management and a new name, "Historic Mint Restaurant and Ale House. At first, I was disappointed that their old stand by, pizza, would not be on the menu. Still, I tried it out and was very pleased with the food, service, ambiance and music. The fare is more "Americana" and there is something for everyone and it's all tasty. I do hope they will have a take-out menu in the near future. Weekend nights can be especially busy and they don't take reservations. Arrive early, or put your name on the list and enjoy a nice walk around town while you're waiting (if it's not raining).
