“A corner of peace and quiet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

We spent a couple of days at this charming bed and breakfast. It is a beautiful house, located in a very quiet part of the island, yet not too far from restaurants and shops. Hikers have very quick access to the Moran state part from here. The terrace that opens up to the pond is a place to find peace and relaxation, especially when the sun shines. We loved it here and hope to be back one day.

I found this B&B online and would love to share details of our experience. Innkeepers Carl and Sue are extremely personable, unobtrusive, but available when needed. Breakfast was a complete treat featuring organic, local fruits and homemade muffins and apple pancake that was light and delicious... also featured are herbal accents and edible flowers from their garden. We had an early kyak trip planned and Sue made sure we had all four courses of breakfast before we left... very sweet. Be prepared to center yourself on the natural beauty of their lovely lilypad covered pond where we searched for the elusive "Otter"... not to be seen, but we were assured they were there... Lively birds of many species visit the deck where they are fed to their heart's content by Carl who clearly loves them. There were binoculars and a telescope for more intimate viewing. A hot tub for a soak at the end of an active day or a glass of chardonnay as the sun sets on the pond... There is wireless wi-fi for those of us who can't completely disconnect, no TV and no cell service on the property (sevice is fine in town)... but it's why we were there... we hiked, kyaked, shopped local artisans and were spoiled by local chefs and townsfolk. Shopping is just amazing...There's no fast food... Plan on spending $75-150 a day on restarant fare, including a couple of drinks with dinner. Definately a place for grown ups, although we saw young families wandering around. Orcas is a little piece of heaven and you won't want to leave!

Room Tip: We had the only room with a detached bath... all other's had private baths which I would have pr...

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast hidden among the trees on beautiful Orcas Island. We had a beautiful, well appointed room which included a CD player with relaxing music CDs stacked next to it. There was television, but we didn't have the inclination to even turn it on. I enjoyed reading and relaxing either outside or even in our room.

I am diabetic, but this didn't stop the hostess from seeing what she could do to accommodate my needs, and she did a fairly good job. What makes this a 4 instead of a 5 is that there were more rules here than my husband and I are accustomed to, compared to the beds and breakfasts we have stayed in the past. When the sun is out the patio facing the pond is a piece of heaven.

Room Tip: Some rooms have their own bathroom within the room, others are right outside the door, but are priva...

We appreciate the generally kind remarks; however, comments about "too many rules" is surprising given their context. We perceived that there was some misunderstanding about our policy that guests not use our kitchen facilities even though we make our policy on this clearly known to guests at check-in and in our room information books. Also we frown on guests actually moving our furniture from one room to another in order to get together with friends. Finally, we take great care to identify dietary needs/ restrictions in advance so that we can avoid an unnecessary surprise. In this case we did everything possible on very short notice to satisfy the diabetic restrictions and we thought, by the guest's complimentary remarks, that we had done a good job.

I returned last week from a week visiting friends in Seattle and the last two days I escaped to my favorite place on earth - the San Juan Islands. I had read the reviews of Otters Pond B and B and felt this would be the perfect place for some alone time. Indeed, it is close to Moran State Park where I hiked up Mt Constitution to view the expanse of the islands below and Mt. Baker looming above it all - it is close to Eastsound, where I wondered amongst the shops and chatted with the very friendly, interesting shopkeepers and artists - not far from Doe Bay or Olga where there is a great art gallery that is staffed by the artists themselves. Enhancing all of this was the B and B itself - tucked away amidst cedars, next to a pond where frogs serenade you to sleep at night and birds wake you in the morning with their singing and calls. I was upgraded to a larger room on the first floor and had a wonderful view of all of this. The place is immaculate, the food completely gourmet and the hosts, Sue and Carl most inviting and wonderful to talk with about anything happening in the islands and will get you a good spot at the best restaurant in town! Breakfasts are set up as an event with a great opportunity to meet the other guests and share stories of what to do in the San Juan's as well as just chat about life in general. I hope to return with my husband some day soon so that he, too, can experience this place and people!

My husband and i just spent the weekend at most perfect place at the Otter Pond Bed and Breakfast at Orcas island. We have stayed at many B and B before all around the U.S.this will be at the top of our list now. Carl and Sue were the most wonderful hostess , they were very friendly and informative. I liked the fact that they still love doing this and were not burnout from having guests. They stay in the house next to the Inn, so if you want to get up and have tea, coffee or just sit out on the patio, you do not feel that your waking up the owners or feel your confined to the bedroom. A five course breakfast is served in the morning, that is excellent and is served in stages. They make the guests feel special like royality. The Inn is very clean and has the most wonderful view of the lily pad pond, and birds, around the feeders. We stayed in the Hummingbird room and it was very quiet, the bathroom was almost as big as the bedroom. I enjoyed going to sleep listening to the cd's in the player , and the feel of soft sheets on the queen size bed. I would definely recommend The Otter Pond B and B to others.

This was my sister's and mine first trip to the San Juan Islands and we made the perfect choice to stay at the Otters Pond Bed and Breakfast. The breakfasts that were served each morning were 5 course meals and opened up my idea of what I could make for breakfast. Also included with a stay at Otters Pond is a copy of their recipe book. If anything, getting this recipe book makes the stay even more worth it.

The view for breakfast was spectacular overlooking Otters Pond and the variety birds that live there. Meeting other guests at breakfast time was a great addition to the experience and finding out about activities to do around Orcas island.

Sue and Carl were wonderful hosts, the rooms were exceptionally clean and the atmosphere was calm and peaceful. The hot tub was great extra at the end of the day. There is Wi-Fiwhich allowed me to continue my online school and brag to my friends on Facebook about how much fun and pampering I was receiving.

Definitely a place to go to get away from it all. When you come, just know you will be welcomed in by Sue and Carl as time-honored friends/guests, served the best homemade breakfasts with out having to make any of it, and be able to enjoy a vacation on Orcas Island. You won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: If you like a lot of light, I recommend the Hummingbird room. It is very open and spacious and the b...

Carl and Sue are wonderful hosts. They are very outgoing and a pleasure to visit with. The five course breakfast each day was a special treat for us both. The Deer are everywhere, caution drive slowly almost hit one that ran across the road. Great getaway, lots of birds on the property, some we had never seen. We look forward to going back.
