“Great Stay on Orcas Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

We had a wonderful time at the Kangaroo House! Charles took great care of us and served breakfasts that you would expect to find in a high-end restaurant. He also gave us lots of tips about where to eat and what to do, all of which were excellent! The bed was incredibly comfortable. Loved the hot tub in the garden as well. The location is excellent, centrally located on the island and very close to downtown area with shopping and restaurants. We will be returning.

Excellent 2 night stay at the Kangaroo House on Orcas. Good location just outside of Eastsound (about a mile walk to town, less to the north shore beach) about 15 miles from the ferry terminal. We stayed in the Nuthatch room which was nice and cozy and had an extra bed which culd be used for a child.

A couple highlights of the stay were the wrap around porch with plenty of shady tress and hummingbirds, along with a private hot tub and bike storage area.

The highlight of the stay is the great 3 course breakfasts by Charlie, including breakfast dessert such as Marzipan cake. Veggie and vegan friendly breakfasts as well.

Overall a great place to stay and would highly recommend it.

We stayed at The Kangaroo House for my birthday over Memorial Day weekend. The house was beautiful and clean. Nice linens and super comfy bed. We felt very comfortable the entire time. Charles and Jill were very easy to be with. The food was fantastic! We don't have any special food needs, but other couples did. Charles seemed to go above and beyond to accommodate their needs, while still making their food as delicious as ours. It was nice to walk down to the hot tub through the garden at the end of the day. We had a wonderful time, and highly recommend this place.

Charles and Jill made us feel very welcome. The breakfasts made delicious use of many local fruits and vegetables. The rooms were clean and wonderfully comfortable. C and J also made great recommendations for dinners and island sights. We will be back.

My sister-in-law and I stayed here - in the nuthatch room - for a three-day girls weekend. The owners have done a great job of preserving the historic quality of this old lodging house. It is centrally located on the island, so it was easy to get to everything. The hot tub is great - we enjoyed soaking in it before breakfast! The garden is amazing, perfectly created to attract a wide variety of birds. Breakfast was divine. Who can argue with homemade croissants? The only quibbles I have are the amount of noise from the neighboring airport and the beds which were a little hard.

A beautiful period home capturing the outdoor charm of the island. The hosts were very accommodating and the grounds including the hottub tucked away "outback" were a plus.

I have never posted a review of a B&B before. We've stayed at many over the years including in Canada and throughout the U.S. Most have been very enjoyable experiences. However, our stay at Kangaroo House this past week borders on the sublime and so I have to post here so that others may share in our fabulous experience.

The Inn is over 100 years old and has a character to it that you seldom experience. The rooms were wonderful, the common living room and study exuded a warmth that soaked you to the marrow. The grounds were impeccably maintained and thoroughly enjoyable. We have experienced these in other bed and breakfasts and that's why we often choose to stay at these inns rather than hotels.

But what sets this place apart are the owners. Charles and Jill. While we only had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Charles as Jill was away during our stay, we also felt that we began to know Jill as well through her recipes that Charles lovingly prepared and through our talks with Charles and other guests. The warmth of the place just draws you in and leaves you feeling special.

As a foodie, I would be extremely remiss in neglecting a review. My stars, the food was better than any restaurant I've been to. I suppose what made it so special is not really knowing what we would be having for breakfast rather than ordering a favorite meal. Each day the food was clearly lovingly prepared and artistically presented - it was a sensorial delight to say the least. Charles shops daily the night before to find the freshest ingredients for the next day's breakfast.

We usually only come over to Orcas Island every few years, but based on our stay here last week we have already reserved our next stay at the Kangaroo House later this year.

Another feature we liked is that it is near Eastsound so that you can walk into town on a groomed trail and/or also take this same trail from the Kangaroo House to North Beach.
