I had lunch at Lower Tavern in Eastsound during a long weekend trip (it was recommended by a local on the ferry ride from the mainland) and loved it. The menu is quite varied, but the burgers are the centerpiece. I had probably the best patty melt I've ever eaten. I don't quite know how they prepared the buns, but they were unusually good, and the beef was juicy without being greasy-tasting. To top it all, they offered a pint of PBR for $2.25.
The atmosphere is classic old-school tavern, with everyone having a great time. Some of my friends were there the night before, and were served by a waitress who they claim was the spitting image of Jersey Shore's Snooki.
The culinary offerings in Eastsound are limited, and some are not so good, while others are pricey. You can't go wrong with this joint.
