In following Cristina's, the former owner of this location with her name, the road has been rocky. Several outings here have proven very up and down with excellent meals one time and only passable the next. Service mainly good but not outstanding. Not quite there yet to be counted on fully good all the time as it used to be.

I remember having such great hopes for Alliium when it opened a couple of years ago. After all, this is where Christina's once was. Each time we have gone, the meals have been pretty good, but not the kind of quality that pulls at you to come back soon. Admittedly this last time was late January--the dead of winter when the really superb Orcas island restaurants (Inn at Ship Bay and The New Leaf Cafe) don't even open their doors. Nevertheless, we weren't expecting dreadful food. Unfortunately, that is what we got. The risotto came in the shape of one of those rice krispie treat "bricks." It was crunchier than a rice krispie treat, although not as crunchy as a real brick (but close) and without any flavor to talk about. The sole was even crunchier, way over baked (or whatever they did to it), and tasting like it had been in the freezer too long with something it didn't like. Again, this was the middle of the winter, but if you're going to open your doors, you should at least serve a "functional" meal. My suggestion is that during the winter months you would be much happier with Sazio di Notte or even Madrona Bar and Grill or The Lower Tavern. It is better in the summer but still cannot come close to competing with Inn at Ship Bay or The New Leaf Cafe.

Well your on a little island - and this was rated the "best" but beware of the 30 cork fee! The finest seattle restaurants charge much less! The smell in the door could kill you - the service was medium. The seafood stew was not fresh & definitely microwaved. The saving grace was the sea scallops - which were good. I could have had bought something from the bakery & cracked my bottle in my hotel room & need better off.

for this "special" four course dinner , we started with a coconut crab soup with red curry that was very good, then a roasted beets and salmon salad that was good, but then things went terribly wrong with the prime rib roast that was bland with a scoop of puree totally bland and tiny bits of carrots and brussels sprouts that were chewy ,dry and burnt!.( might have been cooked the day before and reheated...) unacceptable for the price asked for ($75 +taxes) .As for the dessert, a vanilla cheese cake, it was decent but one could expect something a little more creative for this special dinner that had only one choice except for the main entree( the other choice was scallops).
the restaurant was not decorated in any way, quite a surprise, and even the smell at the entrance of the restaurant was not pleasant.

we are for sure not going back to this place and hopefully this review should raise concerns to the owner and a warning for readers
from two well travelled customers

Everything about this restaurant is top notch. The food is exquisitely prepared. The ambiance is charming, quiet, elegant but very, very comfortable at the same time. Service levels are exactly what you would expect for a 5-star dining experience. Allium is now our favorite restaurant!
