“Quiet and peaceful visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013 via mobile

We spent 3 nights here and enjoyed our visit. We booked a harborside room which had a lovely view and wonderful creek runing just outside the building. Our room was cold when we first arrived but after a call to the front desk, a lovely woman arrived with an additional heater and 4 blankets (one was dirty but we did not need it). The bathroom was clean - funtional - nothing fancy. Beds were comfortable. Good internet connection and it us free - there is no cellular service here.
These rooms are away from the mansion where you check in, I would not recommend staying in these without a car. We ate in the restaurant at the mansion the first night and were disappointed in the food. There are good places to eat in Eastsound for breakfast and lunch (olga cafe has just reopened there and it is a delight).

What I read about this place which was featured in our local newspaper was enough to convince me to book us this place for three days. Due to high booking demand, we can only get a room for 2 nights here although we stayed for a week in Orcas island. Needless to say, the first few days that my husband and I spent in the nearby Suites was worth the wait to finally get a room here. The Bayside Waterfront room was excellent in every way! You won't regret it. Waking up at 5am to the quiet sound of the lapping waves and watching the Canadian geese was very peaceful.

We spent an anniversary at Rosario.

Great history, and the food was fantastic.

The whole island is a wonderful place to visit and the ferry ride to get there is very enjoyable.

You can also get there by floatplane from various departure points.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the bay

We spent 3 nights at the historic Rosario Resort. The room was large w a window wall / patio overlooking the bay. The bed was large (king) and comfortable. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The main building was impressive. The restaurant (food and service) was very good. As it was offseason, the restaurant was closed two evenings. Staff made suggestions and reservations for other eateries in Eastsound. The meals at these places were better than the Rosario restaurant!! The grounds were beautiful and well kept. My wife adopted a family of deer and spent hours watching them over the course of 3 days. I thought the spa massage service was overpriced for an OK massage. The spa itself was nice, albeit on the small side. Plenty of history in the main building w a very good museum detailing Moran - the man, politician and businessman. I would stay here again without question.

We visited Rosario for my wife's birthday in late October 2013. We have spent a lot of time on Orcas and know the island well, but we had never stayed at Rosario. I was impressed by the relatively low cost and good value, and was pleased with the assistance I got when I called to be sure I was selecting the right room.

We stayed in an upper Harborside King room, which I highly recommend. These rooms are close to the water, have great views of the sunset and the mansion, and it's just the right walking distance from the mansion for a nice post-dinner stroll. The upper floor has much easier access from the parking lot, and less footstep noise. We loved the big deck overlooking the water. The room was clean and comfortable, with a unique "window" from the sink area into the bedroom that I've never seen before at a hotel. The bathroom was a little dated, but perhaps that is next on their update list. The bed was comfortable, but if there's one thing I would recommend to the resort, it's to invest in some feather pillows. The existing foam ones are NOT comfortable.

On Saturday night we had a drink in the lounge and enjoyed a fantastic singer-songwriter, Robbie Christmas, who I would definitely recommend checking out if you have the chance. Sunday morning brunch was also enjoyable (with stellar views of the bay) as was the unique vintage indoor pool and hot tub. Sunday night dinner had pretty limited options, but I think this is the norm on a Sunday in the off season.

One of the best things about Rosario is the location. Close to town, close to Moran State Park and Mt. Constitution, and on the way to Olga and Obstruction Pass State Park (which is a must-visit location on Orcas).

I was also very impressed with the woman who checked us in when we arrived on Saturday evening. I wish I had gotten her name, because she was incredibly polite, thorough and helpful, making suggestions of restaurants in town and places to go. After that initial friendly welcome, our interactions with staff were a bit less friendly and more cursory, particularly at the bar.

In summary, I would definitely recommend Rosario, particularly for a special occasion getaway to the San Juans. I'm sure we'll be back.

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Harborside rooms due to their proximity to the water, views of the mansion and...

We ferried from Anecortes to Orcas Island for a 2 night stay at the Rosario Resort & Spa, & stayed in a 2 bedroom "residence" with absolutely fabulous views, privacy from other residences, comfy beds & furniture, lovely, large bathrooms, & a fireplace. We enjoyed 2 dinners & a breakfast in the restaurant that's located within the beautifully preserved old mansion that also houses the front desk, lobby, & loads of history that we discovered upon exploring upstairs & down. Service was, for the most part, excellent, except for the young waiter's having forgotton my husband's appetizer (possibly because he was more interested in our 18 yr old "hanai" grand daughter). I wish we'd been able to stay at least twice as long, to partake of the organ concert in the music room, to spend some pool & spa time, & to experience more of Orcas Island!

Room Tip: If you're traveling with a group, definitely check out the "residences" on the hills a...

We stayed at Rosario in late October and it was our good fortune to have perfect late fall weather. This is a unique property spread over a large, very hilly area. Our room was located in the Hillside unit and our room had a territorial view of the entire harbor and resort site. Coupled with the late fall colors the view was spectacular. As noted in other reviews it is a great advantage to have car when visiting Rosario. If you are in the minority of guests who arrive by boat then walking from the marina to the main building is not difficult or unreasonable. But if your room is located on the hillside, or even in the harbor side area, you will find walking to and from the main building very strenuous.

Our room was very nicely appointed and recently renovated with a very comfortable, king size bed, a 32" flat scene television, a small refrigerator and a small microwave. The generous bathroom included two sinks. The only distraction in our room was that the bath tub tile needed a good treatment of mold spray! This is the moldy northwest and this type of cleaning issue should be addressed regularly by housekeeping but somehow has not been in this Hillside room. This lack of detail is why this resort is a four star instead of a five star resort.

On the positive side at Rosario Resort on a clear night, from your room deck, you can see all the stars - there is very little light pollution at night at this resort. During the day you are just minutes away from hiking or biking through Moran State Park. The property is nicely landscaped and the main building houses a museum focused on the life of the original owner. Due to the time of year we did not use the pools but we did use the fitness room which we found adequate.

We had one meal in the bar lounge the first evening of our arrival - unfortunately the service was extremely slow. From the chatter we overhead at the bar the kitchen was training a new hire - thus the 40 minute wait for two bar appetizers and a salad wedge! Oh well, sometimes that is the price you pay when you travel in the off season. Once the food arrived it was very tasty but we did not return for another meal because of this "first impression" meal. If you are traveling during the high season, I.e. the summer months, we are sure the meal and bar service will be fine simply due to the fact more employees will be on site.
