“Beautiful Marina”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

Spent a couple nights aboard my family's sailboat in Rosario Marina. What a beautiful view each morning to climb on deck and see this grand resort keeping watch on the waterfront. The resort grounds are beautiful and Eastsound is a delight.

We spent four nights at Rosario on our first trip to Orcas Island. We had a Bayside Waterfront King, which was directly on the water. Great views and very quiet. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed, an easy chair, desk, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator. Amenities were generous -- bathrobes, plenty of good-sized plush towels, a deep bathtub.

The Resort itself is interesting. At first glance it is obviously worn around the edges, with several buildings dating from the 1960s closed to occupants and obviously in need of repair. Management is, however, making a notable effort of upgrading the facilities. Work was underway on the garden and kitchens. I didn't mind the it was kind of ratty in places -- that added to the character. I felt like I was at an old resort -- the sort that has lost popularity in the last 20 years. Given that a number of buildings were not occupied with guests, I wondered about the capacity. We found that on a Sunday, both outdoor pools were filled to capacity (nowhere to sit). The dining facilities aren't great. The dining room in the Mansion was lovely, but the food was inconsistent at breakfast. We had lunch there one day and were disappointed. Some reviewers commented positively on the Cascade Grill, but it appeared that their menu was offering some of the same food as the Mansion. Plan to dine off-site if possible. Reservations really are needed for dinner at the restaurants in Eastsound.

The Mansion building is comfortable and quite beautiful. The pool area has a great view of the sound. The grounds are expansive and comfortable for strolling. I'd return again. It was a very relaxing location, close to hiking in Moran State Park with opportunities for kayaking and sailing.

Room Tip: Get a refurbished room. If you like afternoon sun, request a Bayside room facing the Mansion. The wa...

We stayed at the Rosario and were very pleased with our accommodations. The king suite was modern and quaintly decorated. The views were stunning and it was a treat to sit out on the balcony and gaze out over the bay. The Moran Mansion is a stunning piece of architecture and the adult-only pool is a great place to spend a lazy, sunny day. The grounds are well-manicured and there are many activities for families to check out.

My only complaint is the service. The Rosario employs a lot of young, inexperienced help during the summer and it shows. If we asked a question, they didn't know the answer. If we needed a refund, they didn't know how to work the cash register. We dined at the casual restaurant on the property and while the food was good, ordering was a slow and confusing process, the wait time for our meals was long and our waitress disappeared after dropping off our food.

The spa also has a bit of a funky layout. There's no women's or men's locker rooms. The lockers are out in the hallway and the changing rooms and bathrooms are not next to the shower rooms. I'm hoping they renovate that area next.

My advice is to dine in the restaurant in the mansion (the service is better) or request a renovated suite that has a kitchen and bring your own groceries. Also, take a sea plane there. You won't regret it!

We stayed two nights over Memorial Day weekend. We did not stay in or near the main hotel and grounds but a short ride up the hillside to one of the 3 or 4 groups of building that make up the resort. Its a small hike up and down the hill to go to the main bldg to eat, so if you have trouble walking you may want to stay in one of the other buildings near the main bldg or shoreline. The rooms were clean and comfortable and each had a fridge. The bathroom decor was out of the 70's but extra large and functional. The restaurant was kind of pricey, but not out of the norm for the island. It quite a drive into Eastsound but a beautiful drive to eat at the other establishments.

The Hotel and grounds are from the turn of the century and retain the charm of that era. The grounds were designed by the landscape architects that designed Central Park and the Colombian Expo for the Chicago's world fair. Interesting Place.
If you are here on a holiday weekend be sure to be back at the ferry dock EARLY if you have to load a car. We showed up a half hour before the 10:?? am ferry and had to wait two ferries to go back to Anacortes.

We did not stay at the hotel as most reviewers have, but we reserved dock space for one night. The fee is reasonable and it includes use of the property amenities for all members of the boating party. We really enjoyed the use of the pool, fitness room, and indoor hot tub. The dock staff was friendly and provided great service. The highlight of the stay was the presentation about the Moran family and the history of the property. Many of the rooms are open for viewing and there are some classic artifacts and photographs to see. I am really thankful that we docked there on our cruising around the San Juan Islands.

First I want to say that the location and views were fabulous. My husband and I stayed two nights in the harborview rooms. The hotel has many nice features but our room should get an update. The bathroom was clean but was completely 1970's! New carpet and doors are needed as well. And the plastic chairs on the deck should be tossed in garbage. But the setting was so lovely it wasn't that hard to overlook those negatives. We were visiting friends that live on the Island so didn't try the restaurant. We did have a drink in the bar which was nice. If you want to stay here you should ask for a room that has been renovated.

My sister & I were looking for a peaceful little escape from Seattle. We fell in love with Rosario, the water view from our beds & the little town of Eastsound. The resort is casual, but still elegant in an old world style. The front desk, reastaurant, spa, and housekeeping staff made us feel very welcome. On one day, we had the adult pool to ourselves! For the price and the setting, this place is perfect. I'd go back, for sure.
