We ate Dinner here twice - great pizza, especially the Volcano (everything on it). Had burgers the next night - nothing special about the burgers. Stop here for the pizza. Good friendly service too.

Ordered the all meat pizza to go! It was hot and fresh! Staff was very friendly too! Pre-ordered it earlier in the day and it was ready for pick up at 8:45pm!

When you stop to sign out, considering stopping in for a cold beer. Several beers on tap and others in the bottle. Burger was also good. Services was a little spotty.

The first impression of this restaurant was some cute décor and furnishings. Right off after we sat down it was "uncomfortable: The table we sat at next to a window had 15-20 flies buzzing around. When the waitress came we asked her for a fly swatter or something. She said they are not allowed to have a fly swatter in the restaurant and are not even allowed to kill the flies. She told us we could swat at them if we wanted to. We moved to a table on the other side of the restaurant away from the window, her reasoning that the window was warm and probably attracted them. When we moved she said, wow there are a lot of them, I didn't even notice them before. The flies left us alone temporarily at our new table before they joined us once again. we ordered our food. Had to ask for silverware and were told they were out of pickles for the burger. We were the only ones in the place at lunch time and they didn't seem to be too hopping. When the waitress noticed the flies around us she said "geez, they must just like you guys"! The menu consists mostly of pizzas, a few salads and a burger. My pizza was decent. My friends burger was greasy. The whole restaurant seemed dirty. The floor was sticky and the tables and benches appeared to have a set in greasy, sticky kind of grime. We paid over $30 for a burger w/ a bag of chips, a small personal pizza, 2 iced teas and a milkshake. If I was in the area again, I would try the bar and grill across the street or bring my own food. To me if the restaurant is not clean and insect free I doubt the kitchen is. Ugh!

We planned our trip to Mount St. Helens very carefully including where we would eat along the way. As there were only two restaurants in Cougar, and the reviews stating the other one was not child friendly due to the patrons, we chose the Lone Fir Cafe. We were pleasantly surprised. It is a very small cafe without air conditioning and on a day with 92 degree weather, it was a bit uncomfortable. Our dining experience made up for this. Our poor waitress was also the cook but did an excellent job none the less. She was very friendly and apologetic for having to take time to do all of these duties and with this explanation, we didn't mind waiting. Our son had been looking forward to the clam chowder as we read how good it was on the other reviews. Unfortunately, there wasn't any left and the waitress hadn't had a chance to make any more due to being so busy. This was completely understandable and he was just as satisfied with the burger he ordered. Never in my life have I tasted a burger in a restaurant with so much flavor. It was a nice thick patty that had been cooked evenly and thoroughly. My husband ordered the combo pizza and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of toppings and the fact that they were fresh. He ordered a small and it was plenty for me to have a piece and the rest to fill him up. He is a big guy and was starving on top of it. He ordered a strawberry shake to go and it was made with fresh strawberries and was very yummy. There is a little store connected to the cafe and they have a hotel, cabins, rv spaces, tent sites, playground, outdoor swimming pool and a building with several units in it. This would be a very nice spot to spend a little vacation. There is a little rock fireplace in the cafe that I assume would be very nice on a cold day but as we were already cooking, we were happy it wasn't on. The back of the menu has many interesting facts about the mountain to entertain you while you wait. As we were eating, back-up arrived for our waitress and she was just as pleasant and friendly. They working very well as a team to get things caught up and make sure all of the patrons were satisfied. If we are ever in this area again, we will certainly be stopping here to eat.
