“Great burgers and great service”
Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

We arrived just before dinner time and the place was empty. We had a chance to speak to the waitress for a bit and she was very friendly, greeting us as she told us to have our pick of tables. There were three of us in our party and we all ordered onion rings and different burgers.
Since we were climbing Mount St Helens the next morning and going to live on snack bars the next day we decide to have a nice big meal. Within 15 minutes the place filled up with locals, tourists and other climbers. I Ithink we would have stayed here longer if they had a pool table and maybe darts, but it was really nice place.

“Backwoods eats at their finest”

Don't expect escargot, or waiters with ties. Definitely a rough and tumble LOOKING place, but the staff is good hearted, friendly, and helpful, food is good, and beer is great. We went twice while there to climb St Helen's, and it was the perfect per and post hike meal - when all you want is a killer burger or sandwich, and a great ice cold draught beer. Patrons serve for decent entertainment as well...I'm sure they were entertained by us too. :-)

“I agree everything is relative”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

I looked at my wife as we walked up to the door and thought we might be turning around to make PBJ sandwiches. The Sheriff's cruiser was parked there so I figured lets see how it looks inside. We were pleasantly surprised once we walked in the door. This is Cougar, WA people and there is not much happening there. The service, food and beer selection was great. We stayed down the street at Lone Fir resort and I can safely say that the Cougar Bar & Grill was the best part of our stay in Cougar.

OK, its not a 5 star, but for what it is, this is really great. But when you compare Cougar Bar and Grill to other tiny town restaurants it is, in fact, a 5 star.

“Your usual cast of characters.”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Interesting bartenders, locals and drop ins make this a fun place. We ate here two nights and they have decent bar food. More fried options than I like but that seems to be what the masses like. The Halibut sand was good and the grilled turkey with peppers was also good. They make their own chips so don't upgrade to the fries. There is outside seating and resraurant type seating but we sat at the bar as we always do - it's more fun. The prices (food and beer) are reasonable and they have 4 -5 local brews on tap. Happy hour (crappy hour - see photo) runs from 3 - 6. We like talking with locals, you learn a lot about an area from a having a couple beers with the them. One of the bartendes is a dog musher and has run the iditarod 3 teams, that's a feat. Service was quick and friendly though business was slow (Mon and Tue). We liked the Cougar for what that's worth.
