We recently stayed for the 2nd time at Suncadia. The first time we stayed at the Lodge, which was a good experience. The room was nice and comfortable. It was a little busy, with two weddings during the weekend we stayed, so the groups were a little noisy that night, but it wasn't too big of a deal.
This past weekend we rented a house with our family (parents, siblings, etc...) of 9, and what a flop... We originally rented a house for 10, and for reasons out of our own control, were downgraded to a house that slept 6. This left 3 of us (including myself) sleeping on the floor. When we requested a roll away, we were given a twin size blow up mattress. We asked to keep the pump, knowing it would deflate halfway through the night, but they said we couldn't. So I ended up with a sore back on a deflated air mattress. We also asked for additional blankets, which they also could not supply. The next day our water heater went out, but luckily my brother-in-law is an electrician, so he went out and fixed it. Then our dishwasher started spewing water out of the sink, and when someone came out to look at it, they kind of shrugged it off and let it be. A small discount was given due to the downgrade of the house, but nothing even close to justifying the terrible time we had in the house.

We visited the pool/spa area to try to relax in the hot tub, but it was overrun with kids... No talking on your cell phones in the pool area, but no problem with kids in the spa and screaming and running around. Really??

Would like to go back and visit the golf in the summer, but not sure it is worth the hassle...

Suncadia is by far the nicest place I've stayed in - ever! The staff were friendly, helpful and always greeted guests. The rooms had everything - including the finest lotion, shampoo, conditioner and Keurig machine stocked with all types of coffee and tea. The fireplace and adjustable wall mounted TV were standard! The bed was very comfortable.

The views were breathtaking and the hikes I took (5 and 7 miles) were on well maintained trails that offered scenery at its best - forests, river, mountains and wildlife.

The room service menu and fare was excellent.

I noticed all ages of guests and everyone was having a GREAT experience - this is a must go to place that has everything you could ask for and a LOT you would never expect.

We decided on a romantic getaway to the mountains, this is our 3rd stay at the resort. We loved our room and special dinner at the restaurant, but were appalled by large family groups (with kids that went back and forth from the lobby to the table) were positioned next to couples trying to enjoy a romantic meal. The lobby was overrun with kids and the staff seems to have ceded control of the once peaceful retreat to families with checked out parents. The only respite was Swiftwater Cellars and the spa.

kristin j,

I appreciate the information that you shared about your Valentine's Day vacation. We try very hard to be both a family friendly destination but also be able to give couples a great experience on a special weekend away. I promise to share your comments with our team and have noted your recommendation of seating opportunities we may have in our restaurant. I was happy to hear that Glade Spring Spa and Swiftwater Cellars were able to offer you a wonderful experience during your stay. Thank you again for your comments and I hope to welcome you back to Suncadia many more time in 2013 and beyond.

Best Regards,

Roger Beck

We had a great experience staying a the Lodge with our three kids over their mid-winter break, despite initially going to enjoy some snow sports. All the snow that friends had told us about over the winter was melted and gone when we arrived in mid-February. We could not go tubing at their tubing center, but ice skating was still open and the indoor pool/waterslide. The hotel is also a short drive to Village Pizza (great kid-friendly pizza and local beer for the adults!) which is right down the street from Rosalyn Cafe, which was in Northern Exposure. The staff was excellent, helping us with little things that go wrong with kids in tow. My daughter lost her earring and they opened the gift shop after hours for us to get her another one so her earring hole wouldn't close up overnight. The grounds are beautiful snow or not. The room was very nice, and s'mores at night were fun for the kids. All in all, a great getaway.

K I,

Despite the diminishing snow, I am so glad you were able to enjoy some great activities both in Suncadia and in Roslyn. I am happy to hear that the ice skating rink, pool, waterslides and complimentary s'mores were a good substitute for playing in the snow. It is always nice to hear when our staff here does a great job as well. Thank you very much for your business and we hope to welcome you back soon...

Best Regards,

We has a beautiful view of the river, spa was wonderful. Kids liked the pool and ice skating. Great family weekend getaway! Room was clean, and staff was very polite and helpful. The kitchen was an added bonus, we brought Papa Murphys Pizzas, snacks and avoided the expensive restraunts.

We've stayed at Suncadia twice. Once in the Lodge (Winter 2012) and more recently in a house. Our first visit was a Groupon. We had a generously sized room (Lodge one bedroom, 870 sq feet according to their site), with a huge bathroom and we were able to relax in the living area as a family. We paid extra for diversions like tubing and pool usage, as when you are this far from an urban center you've got to expect to pony up.

Our second visit was a house rented with two other families. We stayed in 801 Maple Leaf which housed 11 of us. 6 adults, 3 pre-schoolers a pre-teen and teen all under one roof. Luckily, this property had something for everyone. The pre-teen and pre-schoolers enjoyed the huge play room with four bunk beds. There were ample toys for kids as well as video games. The adults could borrow a book or strike out a game from the wide selection. Or just cozy up by the fireplace or sit in a nook. The house was spacious and the kitchen was well-stocked. We cooked several meals over the course of a weekend, even bringing pots and knives from home since most rentals had sub-standard knives. We needed to bring nothing but ourselves and food! Use of a grill was wonderful, even in the winter.

Tubing as closed this time around. We hadn't thought to call ahead to verify, so our large party was disappointed. In any case, the pool was well-utilized by the pre-teen as was the house's outdoor hot tub. There was even an option to go to family night at the pool/gym but we were far too tired after cooking and socializing. We had a round of ice-skating before we checked out. Bring your own skates to offset the prices, but you'll still pay around $30 for a family of three with your own skates.

Llori,

I am so glad you were able to experience both the Lodge and one of our amazing rental homes on your visits here at Suncadia. I agree that 801 Maple Leaf is a wonderful house with many great features to offer everyone on a family vacation! I am sorry that we couldn't keep the snow on the ground for your visit so that you could experience the tubing hill this year. Hopefully you will be able to visit again next time the snow flies. Thank you for your wonderful response to your stay at Suncadia. I hope to welcome you many more times to Suncadia in the future.

Best Regards,

Roger Beck

First off, I'd like to compliment the way the lodge looks. I'm only on my first day here and I'm greatly impressed with everything. Pool:Haven't been in it but looks fun, going to try the green water slide. Lobby:Great first impressions, and nice access to cafés around it. Rooms: Very nice so far, sofa sleeper I calculate to be roomy, and my dogs make every experience better. Location:Very nice but complex, which makes me feel like an adventure is in store for us. Cleanliness:Very clean rooms, sheets completely made upon arrival. Outside Amenities: There are many trails, and other outdoor activities, including a dog park for dog lovers. In-Room Amenities: Basic amenities that would show a hotels commitment to guests, such as an empty, spacious refrigerator, and a Kureg coffee maker. Overall Service: People will help you with baggage and unloading.
