There are two "Ladies of the Lake". We got the slow one and spent an eight hour day on a 14 knot boat. The trip up lake is marvelous with mountain and forest scenery that Switzerland can't touch. The trip down lake was a drag was a drag in that it was the same thing we had already seen and we got to endure a family of about 10; mostly rude children and a loud mouthed grandmother right out of Honey BooBoo. Unfortunately the crew was in the cabin and at the snack bar instead of taking charge and telling them to shut the hell up. A good alternative to the four hour long down lake trip would be to take the boat up lake to see nature's beauty and the float plane down lake to avoid hours of redundancy.

We took a day trip to visit a small isolated village up the lake which is only accessible by the Lady of the Lake boat, water plane or by hiking in. It's basically a day trip, unless you want to stay overnight at the lodge. For the day trip you take the fast boat up, which is a couple hours or so. On the way back, you catch the slooooow boat-- and it's painfully so. Add to that the extreme heat we had this lovely day in August, and the non-butt friendly seats, it made for a very, very long trip back. Four hours duration on the return as I recall. Had I known the "no pain, no gain" we would have experienced, I would have gladly paid to fly, and recommend it-- especially for a return trip. While the scenery was absolutely beautiful, and the staff was friendly, I would not recommend this option of travel if you can spring for a few dollars more to fly. Your backside will thank you-- especially if it's hot.

This is what you do this day. Fast ferry (two and one half hours) up the lake. Three hour bike rental in Stehekin for peddle to pastries and waterfall. Four ferry ride back to Chelan. What did you do this day?

Chose not to take our dog because they charge $28 per dog and make you sit inside with your dog while it's in a crate.

Beautiful views of the amazing houses on the lower half of the lake. They can't be seen except by boat and they are worth seeing. The views of the alp like mountains on the upper half of the lake are so beautiful and again can only been seen by boat.
The beautiful lake is really a treasure.
