Let's be honest: Centralia/Chehalis is not the most adventurous place when it comes to diverse restaurant fare. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but there's nothing wrong with wanting more choices when you head out for a meal (there IS some variety in town, just not a lot of it). Great Cuisine of India, which operates similar restaurants in Olympia and Lakewood, appeared recently in downtown Centralia and I've been there a couple times.
Great Cuisine is a place where you can find a tasty buffet for lunch at reasonable prices and if you've never had Indian food, this is worth visiting. Their chicken tandoori (a staple) is very good, I've really enjoyed the coconut curry and daal makhani, which is a lentil dish, while their naan bread is straight out of the oven. I think the buffet fare varies from day to day, but I've enjoyed everything I tried both times I've dined there. You really can't beat their AYCE buffet for $9.95 when it represents a chance to try something new and get an idea of specific menu items to order in the future. They've had special buffets with many more items at a higher price...I haven't had the chance to try that but the day is coming. Indian food has a well-earned reputation for spiciness, but (as lightweights in that regard) it wasn't an issue for either of us. Seemed just right.
This is a very informal place (appears to be a former diner with booths on opposite walls with the buffet table in the middle), making it a good spot for a casual meal although it could use a little more atmosphere for taking a date. The guys working there have been great to deal with and the Indian music piping over the speakers is a nice touch. I have no problem recommending Great Cuisine of India and hope more people check it out. It's a solid choice for lunch or dinner and a welcome addition for local people who'd like something more than a steak or a burger for lunch.
