Kiowa wines have a distinctive taste that you will find intriguing or perhaps not. We very much enjoy their reds but certainly know others who are less enthralled. The venue is comfortable with a fine view of the vinyard. Good service and wine knowledge is evident. This is a must try to see if you are Ana vid fan.

The tasting room is in a nice location with good views of the area. The FREE tasting covered quite a variety of wines. The $5 fee for tasting the botrytised Ice Wine was worth the money. An excellent Ice Wine. We walked away with a bottle of the Cab-Merlot -- a good wine and a good value at $15.

We arrived a little early to this vineyard. They were gracious enough to open early. The service was exceptional. The wines were delicious. This was our favorite winery in the Yakima Valley area. A must for both reds and whites.

Kiona is definitely worth a stop when touring Red Mountain. The tasting room is excellent and the vineyard is beautiful and the staff is always friendly. They have some good affordable wines. Definitely well above average in quality for the Yakima Valley but probably a little bit below average for Red Mountain although as described below it was pretty difficult to tell.
My main critique is that the tasting pours are extremely small (essentially one small sip) so it is very difficult to actually get a good taste of the wine. This is probably because it is a popular tasting room and they do not charge for tasting (only Red Mountain winery that is still free?) but I would prefer paying a small tasting fee (maybe refundable with purchase which is what the other nearby wineries do) and actually get to taste the wine. I saw multiple staff members pouring the same amount so I assume this is how they have been trained/instructed.
All in all Kiona has a nice tasting room and a friendly staff and is worth a visit during a Red Mountain winery tour.

Hi Andy -

Thanks for the visit. We are limited in number of ounces that we are able to provide for a tasting by the Washington State Liquor Control Board. Our staff is trained to provide 1 oz pours so as to comply with the rule.

That being said, I understand your frustration. I would like to invite you back to the winery for a tour of the winery and winemaking facilities. Please feel free to send me an email (jj@kionawine.com) and we can set up a time/date that would work well for you and a +1.

Cheers,

JJ Williams
