We had the fillet mignon and grilled chicken linguine. They were both delicious. Also had a glass of Reisling and a very berry martini. Order the rustic bread basket to start. They serve it with three different butters and was really good.

I have been coming here for more than ten years and find the food the best in town. Hard to find anything close to fine dining in Bellingham, but Fino's does that well while offering less expensive possibilities. New ownership has led to great improvements. There is now a brand new gorgeous bar area with great happy hour food prices. Until now there was no good way to come for drinks and snacks. And there are new menus with less costly options and some of the lunch choices are really extraordinary. I tested the hamburger, the fish tacos and the steak salad, priced reasonably but exceptional in taste and quality. The burger was amazingly high quality beef. Rob Holmes, the chef, is doing very creative and tasty work. And this leaves out the view and gorgeous architecture. Magnificent.

Red alert! Fino has morphed into a barely mediocre restaurant. Linens? Gone. The interesting two dollar bread basket? Gone. It's till two dollars but is made up entirely of sliced, sandwich-style grocery "French" bread. The menu? Dumbed down.
It was our server's first day. She knew absolutely nothing about the wine list. She was eager and tried hard but had not been taught how to serve or remove dishes. We said we missed the breadsticks; they brought out some which were gaggingly state. I ordered cioppino. Shrimp? Scallops? Mussels? No! Three miniscule clams, about three tablespoons of over-cooked cod and salmon, and a cup of broth thick as tomato sauce. Propped on the side of the bowl were two more slices of the cold, store-bought bread. Twenty-three dollars. Ghastly! Never again.

Fino is a really nice, cozy restaurant in an un-busy area. One evening we watched a small -boat sailing race. The restaurant even provides binoculars at the table. On a chilly evening it's delightful to sit by the fire. The wait staff are attentive and friendly without encroaching on one's privacy. The food is delicious and the wine list is excellent. Portions are small, which was fine with us but might disappoint big eaters.

Happy Hour is a must. The smallish tidbits are free and "chef's choice" but very savory. Fino has excellent service (thanks, Sam) and an incredible view of Bellingham Bay. The cocktail choices were mostly new to us and refreshingly light. The wines, none from the U.S., were well worth the price. Nice quiet place for a pre-dinner experience.
