Description: We've been voted Bellingham's Best Sandwich for over ten years in a row, and there's good reason for this. We start with our fresh-baked bread (Focaccia, Rosemary, Mulitigrain, Ciabatta, just to name a few...), Add lots of tasty veggies, and all-natural meats (if you're into that sort of thing- if not, we have lots of vegetarian options), finish with great homemade spreads, and present you a gourmet sandwich fit for royalty. Special to our Railroad cafe are our flats, our take on pizza, and our grinders.

So popular locally for fab artisan breads and good meals it has expanded to James St and Fairhaven. A favorite casual place to eat or wonderful for picking up wonderful bread to accompany a meal at home.

I have been to the Bellingham and Lynden branches and both are family friendly cafes serving sumptuous meals at reasonable prices. To me and my family, the sandwiches are the most popular choice; but choosing the best among the best on a chalkboard menu is a wonderful challenge! It's like tasting the ingredients while reading it.
I keep mine to the Eggs Benedict selection. They are either topped with specialties like turkey, ham, bacon, spinach and other local seasonal harvests. My favorite is the one with spinach! With bernaise sauce and hash browns on the side, this open face sandwich is simply delicious!
I guess the secret to all the scrumptious sandwiches are the artisan bread; sourdough, multi grain, rosemary wheat are some of them. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
My favorite is the sourdough. I have tried this type of bread in some places in the country and I can personally claim that Avenue Bread's Sourdough is, so far, the best.

Can't miss with their bread or sandwiches, but I wish they had better coffee. The Eggenue is a great breakfast!

Have been to the ones on James St. & in Fairhaven, & love them both! One of my favorite sandwiches is their BLT&T - bacon, lettuce, tomato & turkey. Excellent sandwiches, & for most they'll make halves, and good soup. Haven't tried their breakfasts yet - need to do that.
My only not-so-excellent comments -- the chips that come with the sandwiches are always stale, and the turkey & ham slices would be so much more excellent if they were thick sliced, from roasted turkey & ham. I'm just not a huge fan of thin, deli-style meat.
