“Small menu, great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2014

We dined here for the first time and were impressed with the quality of the meals. The Rueben sandwich is huge and very tasty. The shrimp dish was loaded with flavor. This is a great little restaurant/bar.

“All that is GOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2014

These guys know how to rock. Award winning beers, fun atmosphere and superb, affordable eats. You've got lots of choices in the city of subdued excitement but you can't go wrong here.

“Good location, nice beer, good menu choices”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2014

Technically, the Local is not a brewpub with brewing on the premises, That takes place about ten miles north of this downtown Bellingham spot, in the Menace Brewing nano-brewery, The Local has 14 taps pouring, usually about three are Menace beers and the rest good selections from the region's many other craft brewers. Three menus: lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, offer the traditional pub food choices and a few more, gourmet-style dishes. Decor is nice, too--in the center check out the three "live edge" black walnut standups and the bar, vertical-grained fir recycled from the lately closed Harley-Davidson dealership nearby. Pix on the wall are other breweries in the county. Food--always tastes great. Soups all day, brunch a benny on English muffins made on premise.

“Beer and wine pairing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2014 via mobile

Had to go back and get a picture of their beautiful presentations. Tried a beer versus wine pairing for different courses. Salad started us out, dungeness crab, slices of avocado highlighted with thin slices of daikon radish on a bed of thin seaweed. Soup followed, smoked black cod in a chowder. Next roasted pork belly on a coati polenta. Final part of the main course was duck confit . Desert was a rich chocolate torte.
This dinner showed us all the wonderful possibilities of a place we plan to frequent on a regular basis, this is a place bellingham has missed ever since the vines closed down.

“Quiet part of town for a great restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014

We stopped here around noon on a grey Saturday. Nice bar with custom handmade touches to the tables, lights and shelves. Good background music to listen to and still allow a conversation. Nice selection of rotating beers some made by their brewery in Ferndale. We split a Rueben sandwich with fries and a duck gumbo stew. Sandwich was one of the best reubens we've had, didn't get soggy from the sauerkraut and the corn beef was thick cut and tasted like it was fresh out of the oven. Gumbo had a nice spice to it but wasn't something I'd order again. We plan on returning for breakfast, great selection of eggs benedict, corn beef hash and other interesting things to try. Friendly service.
