Stopped in for lunch and a beer for my husband. The food was simple, yet delicious. Overheard a group at another table who had eaten there two days in a row because it was so good!

We had a light lunch of clam chowder. It was delicious. Other lunches looked good also. We would eat here again.

SHC has some of the best ambiance for a place to eat in Bellingham. It is quite lovely with wonderful woodworking and great decor. But this is an eating establishment and in such a grand place one would expect food with outstanding quality. We go for the clam chowder...some of the best ever eaten and certainly the best in this immediate area. My husband and I had breakfast there last week and it was disappointing. I have been 2 other times for breakfast and both times the food was just ok. We had pancakes this last time and they were like lead and cold. Had to send them back.the second batch came back hot, but still like lead. The griddle needs to be hot to make good pancakes.
Service is off and on as I think the food is as well. Too bad, because this could be a must on anyone's list with some improvement in the quality of food prepared. Go for the clam chowder. It won't disappoint. And I have to agree with another reviewer about the French bread. It tasted very stale. Too bad again, because there is nothing better than a great bowl of clam chowder and a nice, warm crusty piece of French bread!. As the saying goes, it is so easy to turn bread and water into tea and toast....it is so easy to make little changes that will turn a so -so dining experience into a memorable one. You're half way there with an AMAZING atmosphere..go all the way with amazing food!!

The setting was nice, and I expected more because there was a Tripadvisor recommendation at the front. But the food was definitely subpar and not a good value for money. I had smoked salmon pasta and it wasn't completely hot. The sauce looked unappetizing and tasted bland. There was hardly any cheese. The French bread served with the meal wasn't that great either.

The washroom also had an odd odor. Overall, it was a disappointment on many levels.

Wandered into the cafe for a Sunday breakfast. Quite taken with the architecture and original facility. Tried their Banana Bread French toast, tasty and filling. Wife's egg's were barely warm and the service a bit slow. Price was fair. Will give it a 2nd chance.
