Owner description: The Historic Fairhaven Village is a charming community located on the south end of Bellingham, WA. In this turn-of-the-century village you’ll find yourself amongst locally owned and operated boutique shops, fine dining, curated art galleries, hotels, spas and outdoor activities aplenty! Surrounded by bay and wooded trails it’s the perfect launching point for a hike, cycle or kayak on the bay. The Fairhaven Village Green park, much like a town square, hosts a summer Farmer’s Market, live music, outdoor movies and annual festivals like Dirty Dan Days, Bellhaven Jazz Fest, Ski-to-Sea Fairhaven Festival, Winterfest and much more! Just minutes off I-5 it’s easy to arrive by car. There is a transportation hub within the village which houses Amtrak and Greyhound stations, Bellingham city bus, Alaska Marine Highway Ferry and San Juan Cruises. Whether it’s a day trip or a long relaxing weekend there truly is something for everyone in Fairhaven.

We walked through a park with a labyrinth, through the woods, past salmon ladders, and came out at the most charming historic district with great restaurants, bars, and cafes. A walking tour, we discovered "the green" surrounded by an area where they have farmer's markets and a big screen on the wall where they show outdoor movies. We only saw it in the evening in the dark, but were enchanted and would love to return to Bellingham's Historic District and so glad our friends moved in walking distance of it.

We enjoyed walking the streets of this area with its many boutiques and specialty shops and lots of restaurants and coffee shops. The boardwalk along Bellingham Bay is a great spot to walk in the evening (with lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view of the boats and animals, in addition to the people).

From a West coast US perspective, Fairhaven has a fair amount of history. Plenty of interesting shops and cafes with some must visits like Village Books. Plenty of "we tolerate everything thing" crack-heads and druggies as well. Streets are steep so if you don't get around well you'll be restricted to the immediate center, but that's where most things are anyway. A fun place to spend the day.

Fun town. Walk the South Bay Trail for a beautiful harbor view. Lots of fun shops and restaurants. Activities on the Village Green in the summer.

The place is filled with Californian transplants and meth heads. Expensive farmer's market. Hard to find parking and crowded.
