Larrabee State Park

THe park was a nice escape and beautiful views of the Puget Sound. Bellingham is just 10 minutes away if you need to get any camping or food essentials. Everything was perfect until 10pm when the trains would speed by the campsite. Yes I knew the park was built next to the tracks, but did not know that the trains were so lound and they wach blew their horns as they passed by. I did count 11 trains throughout the night and they would come by every 30-40 minutes bd sleeping was not possible. I was so fustrated that I almost slept in the car to drown out the noise. Great park to day visit, but get a hotel room away from the tracks. Not worth $21 for a restless night.

This campground is beautiful. There is a large playground area and picnic area with an old-fashioned bandstand stage. Also a small hiking trail leads to the beach and beautiful views of the islands and bay. The sandy beach is great for small children - turn over the rocks at water's edge and you will see purple and red starfish! The campground is usually booked solid on weekends so make reservations in summer. Summer weekdays though are usually available so check that morning. There are hookups for trailers and sites for car camping. There are also more secluded campsites for tents that you have to hike to. Beautiful forest setting and plenty of restrooms nearby. The sites nearest Chuckanut Drive can be noisy with traffic all night so choose a different area. There also are one or two trains that pass close by late at night and early morning so that can be a little noisy. Even so, we love this park and try and stay here every year!
