A great place to walk about, shop and enjoy interesting food. Many stalls are under a shelter and even on a rainy day this place is fun to explore. Plenty of food to eat or take home plus lots of crafts. A must stop for anyone visiting Bellingham.

Part of my trip report:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/GoListEditor-i30345-Trip_Report_Seattle_to_Bellingham_to.html
We arrived in Bellingham on the 4th of July - luckily a Wednesday so the market was happening. Easiest way to find it -- behind Village Books. The market is small and charming - a few produce vendors, artisans, ice cream, and baked goods. The vendors form a square around the grassy area. There is entertainment in the center - music and then a magician while we were there. There was a long wait for an outside table at the Colophon Cafe, and the buzzer they give works throughout the village green and Village Books, so we enjoyed the market while we waited for a table. We bought local organic strawberries and sugar peas -- so good!!!! Between the market, sitting in the sun, and the browsing the book store, it was easy and enjoyable to pass the time waiting for our table.

Every Saturday, Spring through Fall, this local farmer's market comes to life in the heart of Bellingham. In the market you can find lots of farm stands, including plenty of organic farm vendors, selling local produce. You can also find many good food stands serving a wide variety of delicious foods and treats. The market also features many arts and crafts vendor as well as people selling soaps and lotions and the like. The market has an inside portion (roof but with open walls) and an outside section, including tables where you can eat and relax. There are many performers peppered throughout the market offering musical entertainment, mine acts, juggling, etc. All in all, this is a really fun place to hangout and experience the buzz of the community, especially on a sunny day when everyone is extra happy here in the great Pacific Northwest.

After hearing so much hype about this farmer's market, we decided to visit after a tour of WWU. We got there late...right before closing time of 3:00, but we didn't realize it because we had been told that it stayed open until 4:00. The vendor where we ordered fish tacos didn't tell us that they were closing....just told us that we couldn't have some of the items very rudely. Then served us cold salmon sandwiches and cold fish tacos (and these are not the typical fried fish tacos...but some kind of really bland white fish served on a flour tortilla with cabbage....skip it). If they had told us they were closing it would have been our "ah ha" moment which would have excused the rest.

Because then we sat down at a table to eat...it was probaby 3:05 by now and within a few minutes someone came over and told us to get up so they could put the tables away. They told us to go eat on some benches and then stood there waiting for us to move.

Again...if we had realized it was closing we would have understood. But everyone was so rude it was almost shocking. I know what it is like to want to close up and have customers linger, but we honestly were treated badly. Can't speak to the rest of the vendors. In our town the little farmer's market vendors are so nice, and so helpful, and they want to sell their wares and foods up until the closing bell.

We were on a trip to visit WWU to see if our child would want to attend. At the end of the day he said,"that would have been a perfect trip if only we had not gone to that farmer's market."

Lots to see here and poke around for a few hours. Fresh produce, great soaps, lotions, lavender and even a chance to get a chair massage to feel relaxed.
The lunch/food area is certainly eclectric and offers some interesting choices.
