This is a beautiful, easy hike. If there is only one thing to do in Bellingham, go here! It's surprisingly close to the 5 freeway and is also close to downtown Bellingham.

The park is good sized and very easily accessible - you can more or less park and walk a few feet over to see some of the waterfalls. With that said, so can everyone else. If you move away from the falls, you'll find the peacefulness other folks have mentioned. Expect to walk a good ways before you find yourself as anything more than one person in a mob.

With that said, it's a gorgeous park, lots of wildlife, and lots of easy trails to explore. While the falls were probably the most beautiful aspect, the number of people climbing in them definitely diminished the view. We enjoyed the lake before the falls and even saw an owl up close and personal. The hatchery was also very interesting.

Whatcom Falls Park is a great place to spend the mornings on warm days. With all the trails and observation sites, you can spend many hours running/walking the park for fun and exercise!

I'm always thrilled to find gems like this park when I'm traveling for business. Right in town, but it is a big enough area that all you hear is birdsong and rushing water. I felt very safe as a single woman walking the trails. (I asked lady at the front desk and then another local woman running the road before I got out). There were many other people around but it did not feel crowded. Plenty of spots to be alone. I'd consider this a must see if your in the area. I uploaded several photos below.

Right in the middle of a pretty big town. Very nice little park. The waterfall is pretty and the old WPA bridge is worth seeing. Kids will enjoy the playgrounds and live fish hatchery.
