“Do Not Stay At Bear Creek Motel”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

Overpriced doesn't even begin to describe this place. Black and green lumps of mold on the walk and doorstep, dirty sheets with no one in the motel office after 8pm so no one could change them and a pervasive smell of insecticide and mold in the room. Sadly, we were forced to stay here when Sol Duc was unable to honor our reservation. The $75 price is outrageous but since we were the ony couple staying there that night, I guess they wanted to make as much money as possible. We slept in our clothes out of concern for what we might be exposed to in the dirty bed. One window could not be opened as it was broken and we opened the front window to try to rid the place of the moldy smell. Do not subject you or your family to this. Keep driving.

We really wanted to eat in a diner like you see in the films during road trip from Portland to Seattle round Olympic NP. Slowed down and drove off from a couple that looked a bit dodge but finally stopped at Hungry Bear and loved it. Service was good, the lady and her son were friendly and I liked the local feel, the old guys with the hats around the counter and the way everyone stared at whoever was coming in - everything I'd hoped for. I loved the old till, cheezy signs, old bottles/tins, newspaper clippings etc and loved sitting at the counter drinking coffee refills (staring at the people who came in!!). Great home made cookies too. Can't see what else you'd expect from a roadside diner - it did what it said on the tin and was a great tourist experience and welcome breakfast on a long drive.

Quoted 55/night .upon arrival at 9pm Fri night was told price is 75night. Even tho I confirmed price ahead of time. Because of this we avoided the grease cafe didn't want to give em another penny. Same as other reviews awkward upon cafe entry everyone turns to stare. Which made arguing for my quoted price uncomfortable. Spider webs everywhere, nothing nearby, shabby furniture and not much of it. No amenities. Being labor day weekend Fri night we didn't have another option. I agree looks like hunting/fishing man's sleep shed.

Was expecting a litle nicer based on website. Paid $85 for one night on July 2 (holiday weekend) with 4 adults. No min stay so that was nice. Log interior walls were dark brown & could use scrubbing. It looked like a snail had crawled on the wall & left behind a slime trail. Lol. Towels were nice & fluffy & clean. Beds marginally comfy. Tv worked intermittently. Furnishings looked like garage sale finds. Door to room had 3/4" gap at the bottom. I rolled up a towel to put down there. Electric heater kept us toasty warm in the chilly overnight.

We made the mistake of eating here on the way to la Push. They should bulldoze this place and start over. It looks as if no upgrades to the resturant have been made since 1985. The restrooms were filthy and our close smelled like old grease for the whole day. All I had was a burger but that was enough to smoke up the entire dining room. Keep driving to forks and eat at Pacific Pizza.

Did not stay at this establishment--but at urging of members of my party, we stopped there for lunch on an August Sunday. The dining room was pretty crowded--apparently mostly local folks enjoying a meal out. I assume they were from around there since when we walked in, everyone turned to look at us... Anyhow we ordered and then members of the party visited the restrooms--really really grossly filthy and ill-maintained. Eventually the food came, but not b efore a member of our party used up her hand sanitizer to scrub grease off the table. The meal was 'passable'--indeed it passed very quickly for two of our party (ever looked for a toilet out on the highway on the Olympic peninsula?) For the rest of us, the legacy was that our jackets and sweaters all retained the smell of fried food for the rest of the day. I guess if you want what appears to be an 'authentic' experience, do drop in, but just have some of their wretched coffee and then head on down the road.

My Mom and I had a mother-daughter weekend for Memorial Day this year. We both enjoy the Twilight Saga series of books, so we decided to head on over to Forks, WA (about a 6+ hour drive from home) and do some Twilight Tours just for the fun of it. We booked last-minute, so had a VERY hard time finding lodging. We called everyone in Forks, La Push, etc... not much luck.

We ended up at the Hungry Bear, which is about 15 miles west on 101 from Forks (easy to find). It looked a bit dodgy from the outside (as motels go) to us - two women traveling alone - but we decided to give it a try. The check-in desk is in the cafe; we stayed in Room 4 of the cabin-like motel, which was cheery, clean and comfortable with two double beds, newer carpet and tile, a fresh smell and a good-working heater (it was rainy and cold, so this was important!). Things we would have liked: a lower price (it was a bit spendy, we think they hiked their rates up for the holiday weekend and the halibut fishermen, but oh well); a hair-dryer; a fridge and/or microwave; better water pressure in the sink/shower; healthier items on the breakfast menu in the cafe.

Overall, it was a good visit. We love the beautiful scenery in the area, and while there is really nothing to do in Beaver, WA, Forks is amazingly fun if you love Twilight (though much of the film was actually shot in St. Helens, OR) and the beaches of La Push (very short drive) are GORGEOUS!
