“Sad Decline of the Old Gringo”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

When we first dined here in the 1990's, the food, service and value were excellent. Over the years, though, it has gone through a sad decline. We only go here now when friends come to town and ask to go here, recalling its glory days. However we are ever more disappointed and have now resolved not to go again. Where the food used to be fresh, it is tastes reheated. The deterioration in preparation and ingredients have caused part of this decline; e.g. they used to only only use tender breast meat, now there is far too much soggy limp dark meat.; the beans have a muddy overstewed taste, the salad last time we ate here was limp and overdressed. The service has also seriously declined, from having to ask bus people to refill our glasses and chips; in the past these simple tasks were done attentively without prompting. Sadly, the prices have continued to rise while the food and atmosphere have declined.
We ate there last fall and decided it was the last time. I only write this review because a friend was complaining about his disappointing meal last week, and I could only commiserate. So sad

“Good SW / Mex!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

Not a fan of the grease at Isla Bonita or Casa Rojas, but the menu at San Carlos comes across as a lot lighter. Fun inside, semi-upscale. My dad will forever complain it's "too expensive for Mexican" but it's really a twist on Mexican with better ingredients and more inventive plates, so I think it's worth the few extra dollars. I've never had a drink there, but the cocktails are supposed to be awesome. Always have a good time at San Carlos - fun but not too loud!

“Great margaritas and southwestern food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

San Carlos is our favorite spot for margaritas and good southwestern food. Great bar atmosphere and comfortable dining area. We love the fish tacos. It's a little pricier than typical mexican restaurants which is reflected in the quality of the food served.

“Bainbridge Island San Carlos Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2012

Award winning, Bite of Seattle, place. Local owners. Not a formula chain. Walk on or Drive via Seattle Ferry to Winslow. Hike about 8-10 blocks. west on Winslow Way. Turn right/N up Madison. San C will be on your left. $10 lunches $15 dinners. Upscale TX/MEX atmosphere. BUSY. Check to confirm if open for lunch. I've enjoyed SC food for 15 years.
