What a unique building and attached gift shop. We had the corn fritter appetizer which was good. However, our entrees were excellent. My husband had the steak and I had the spinach lasagna wrapped in pine nuts.

“Unexpected pleasure”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

My wife and I had just exited a beautiful log cabin retreat on the Va-NC border complete with grandkids: lovely but chaotic, at times. When we came by this Log House we stopped, and quite by accident had a great meal and a restful time. The day had begun a cooling trend as we arose in the morning so that by noon it was only in the 40's with a chilling wind as we entered the front door. Our eyes adjusted to the interior with the fires going in each dining site and the smell of hot chowder and vegetable-beef soup wafted our way. We had assorted cheeses and soups, both wonderful, for lunch and then overate at the Kentucky Derby dessert, which was yummy.
The gift shop and the gardens allowed us time to re-warm and sample a most eclecticvariety of arts and crafts and imported garden and decorator items. By then the day turned bright( the cold front had passed) and we departed, happy and well filled. Great prices too.

Wonderful food, unique decor in an original log house with a history, Great menu with very unusual dishes with a lot of flavor. Waitstaff was helpful and attentive. Would highly recommend this restaurant!

“I LOVE this place!”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This is a must-do place to visit and dine.

The history and ambience is just beautiful. Gardens to walk through, a super nice gift shop, lots of interesting decor and comfortable seating.

In the garden they have a cage with three white doves residing. There's a small "pen" with a bunny hutch. I may be making it sound like it's large - it's not, just picturesque. Brick walkways (watch your step!) and beautiful foliage.

We ate here once a few years ago and the food was fantastic. This meal was okay. The filet was a little dryish, but the sides were good. We tried some local wines and they were excellent. The meal was fine though. Just not as good as the previous visit. Maybe we had high expectations.

Regardless, it's worth the time for a meal and the experience.

A little pricey (meal and drinks around $75) for two, with only one glass of wine each. But we don't eat out often...so it was okay.

Do visit if you have the time. Parking lot is on the left side of the restaurant as well as some spots in front. Restrooms clean and service good.

Very quaint place. I'll go back again next time through town!
