“Good Stay”
Reviewed December 29, 2008

I stopped here while driving on I-81. I got a good AAA rate. The front desk was quick and efficient. He gave me a map of the area.

The hotel is an older motor inn, but very well maintained. My room was spotless with many amenities such as a microvave and fridge along with many cable TV stations. The bed was very comfortable.

There is a Perkins Restaurant on the premises, which serves good food. This is one of the few Best Westerns that do not include breakfast with the rates. If you don't want Perkins, there is a Bob Evans, Waffle House and many of the usual picks in a close area. There is also a mall very close.

We had an early morning appointment in Winchester and decided to stay overnight rather than travel the 50 miles in the morning so we picked the Lee Jackson based on amenities and price. We had confirmed reservations through Expedia but because we live closer than 60 miles to this hotel we were not allowed to stay there. Their company policy forbids anyone living within 60 miles of the hotel to stay at their hotel. This was never mentioned in any of the web sites we visited prior to booking. Though they could have obtained our telephone number through Expedia, we only learned of it when we called them on the way to the hotel and they told us politely but firmly that we were not allowed to stay there. I asked if they were full the answer was that they were less than half full but we couldn't stay. We called the nearby Super 8 Motel -- had a nice clean, quiet room with two double beds, refrigerator and microwave, and bagels, juice and coffee for breakfast at about 2/3rds of the price we would have paid at Lee Jackson. We found it interesting that in this economy Lee Jackson was in a position to turn down a married middle aged couple simply because they lived too close.

Desk staff late at night was very friendly. I booked this hotel via Priceline.com and got a very good rate. Requested two double beds and the room was as expected.

Hotel appears in good shape and has been updated recently. Parking lot was well lit and clean.

I could not get WiFi in our room on the back of the hotel, it was about midnight and I could hit thier server, but not the internet. I didn't call the desk, so maybe they could have resolved if I had.

There were two outlets I attempted to plug my laptop in, both were VERY loose, one sparked when I started to plug in. I decided not to risk my laptop and didn't plug it in.

Very clean room and was a good place to rest for the night on our Thanksgiving travels.

We just returned from a long weekend in Winchester VA, during which we stayed at the Best Western Lee Jackson Inn. Having read the other reviews, I was dreading our arrival and wondering if I'd chosen the right place.

I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived just after noon, and even though check in wasn't till 3:00, our room was ready.

The room was large and comfortable and above all, clean. The bathroom (with sink separated from toilet/tub area) was spotlessly clean, with an exhaust fan that actually worked! Fridge and microwave in the room as well. The non-functioning hair dryer was replaced less than 15 minutes after we called about it.

There were a few little things that needed looking after - a drawer pull was missing on the dresser, and the floor lamp had a bad switch. But these things certainly did not deter from our stay. I also suggested that there be 4 rather than just 3 pillows on the king bed.

What did bother us was a large group (as many as 20) of what we would describe as "trailer trash" who literally took over an open area on the first floor and virtually blocked access to the stairs. They moved all the chairs and a table from the pool area to set up their food and drinks. Their children were playing in rainwater in the corner of the parking lot that backed up from a heavy rain that afternoon. This same group took over the pool the next night, again commandeering most of the chairs and several of the tables.

All in all, I was pleased with our stay at this hotel. The bed was comfortable, good selection of TV networks, good location.

We reserved a room at the Best Western, Winchester, Virginia. When we arrived there at 3:30 p.m. we were told the room wasn't ready. We then returned at 4:30 and were told that the room was still not ready. No excuse for this. We cancelled and went to another hotel down the road and funny how their rooms were ready. We were told that it was Apple Blossom Festival there and they were very busy. We watched as other people were getting their keys and were able to check in. We are Gold Card members and will never try to stay there again and recommend everyone not too. Very poor service.

A disastarous stay on the way to Myrtle Beach. TV did not work in first room. When given keys to 2nd room, keys did not work. While lying in bed, another person walked into teh room, she had been given key to stay there. Killed large bug on ceiling and brougt to night manager, he whispered that he'd knock $5 off the rate. Ridiculous ! Tried following up with regular manager who apparently doesn't come into work all that much. You can do better elsewhere.Issues never resolved.

Grossly overcharged on Canadian to US dollar. The owner charged approximately 16% more than the current exchange rate. The rate in effect at the time was 1.1325 and we were charged 1.397. Since we did not have a calculator at the time and were quite tired, we simply checked in and went to bed. Upon reflection, we discovered the discrepency and have written to Best Western to lodge a complaint.

  • Liked — Rooms was clean, though poorly set up - the heat vent blew the air between the window and the curtains.
  • Disliked — Roomy.
  • Tips/Secrets — Know the exchange rate and be prepared to find another hotel.
