Amazing artifacts and very knowledgeable volunteers! There is still blood on the floor from when the building was used as a hospital during the Civil War!

My husband is a licensed land surveyor and this is President Washington's survey office. He enjoyed seeing the old equipment and maps of the area. Helpful staff, interesting stop.

This is one of three locations managed by the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society. The other is Abram's Delight and Stonewall Jackson's Headquarters. Purchase the block ticket and visit all three locations. Washington's Office museum is only one portion of the story. If you've visited Mount Vernon, you'll know about Washington's early years as a surveyor. He basically got to check out Virginia and find the best land ... maybe this is how he found the land that later became his Mount Vernon estate. The site also has relevance for the civil war era. Jerry, the guide present on the day we visited, provided us with a lot of history about Winchester and how it changed 'hands' several times. There is a great selection of books available for sale. I purchased one about the Civil War and Winchester as it contains stories about the people and the impact of the war. The museum is located on the corner of Cork St and Braddock St. Parking is on the street or there is a metered parking lot on Cork Street.

This is a very small museum with period artifacts. The staff member was very informative and explained some of the displays and history.

As others have stated it doesn't take long to go through and the tickets can be purchased separately or as part of a package that includes Stonewall Jackson's headquarters and Abram's delight. (The package price is cheaper).

I would add a note to the other comments in that this museum since it is the actual building is not handicapped accessible. There is a big step up (at least for me) through a narrow doorway into the center room. My dad who is in his late 70's and fairly agile yet made it with some difficulty.
