“Good Value, but Colorless”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

This is trying hard to look like a modern boutique hotel, but it comes off in the end as kind of cheap. Don't get me wrong, it's a good value for the money, but they are using their spare style in order to spare some change.

The lobby is a marketing tool, where you're surrounded by things for sale. The food area is sort of one large dispenser of everything you can serve yourself, none of it priced too low. The bar is very prominent and also willing to take money from you. If you spend much time on this floor, you will have wiped out any savings you made from booking a relatively inexpensive room.

We didn't have time for the small-looking pool or the nicely-equipped exercise room.

The room is comfortable, in a sterile way, with a big platform bed and a very moderne bathroom. The stylish sink drained too slowly, but the big shower was a treat.

If you don't want to know where you are, this place is perfect. You could be anywhere on the planet. However, the charming town of Winchester is just a short drive away and I'd recommend that for all meals and for a nice stroll on the newly-refurbished (they were still working on it) walking mall.

In the end, the Aloft Winchester is worth a good rating, but I won't seek out another Aloft property soon.

Stayed for one night on the way back from a road trip. The room was very clean and comfortable. This price was also on the lower end of the hotels in the area. The modern style gives this hotel a unique feel in comparison to the usual chain hotels. While we either enjoyed or had no issues with any of these differences, some may be turned off by them. Obvious positives included a pool table in the lobby, a "sanitized" remote control, Direct TV with a large number of channels and a soap/shampoo dispensers in the shower. However, you won't get free breakfast in the morning or a dresser/nightstand with drawers in the room(there is a cubby/closet type area by the sink vanity that was sufficient for us). Also, as mentioned in other reviews, there is an opaque window between the back of the shower and the bedroom area. We did not have any issue with this as you really can't see much through this window. We actually experimented and found that you had to basically be within an inch of the window on the shower side for the person on the other side to count how many fingers you were holding up. Any further back, you really can't make anything out but vague shadows. So as long as you don't stand pressed against the very back of the shower you should be ok.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find a modern European style hotel next to I-81 in rural VA. The room was quite modern and very comfortable. The staff w friendly and helpful. It is adjacent to the campus of Shenandoah University, which a great spot to walk one's dogs. One will need to drive a bit to find a decent meal. The nearby restaurants leave much to be desired.

We stayed at our first aloft in January, it was a unique change. Very clean, staff was helpful. It is kinda like walking in to a hotel designed by Ikea. Winchester is has a beautiful downtown area you shouldn't miss while visiting the area.

We loved the decor and vibe of the hotel until we tried to sleep. Paper thin walls! I got no sleep between the neighbor's tv or multiple late night rendezvous. If you're traveling with family avoid this hotel because the shower shares and opaque wall with the bedroom. Seriously. Traveling with the boyfriend is one thing but you don't want your family watching you shower.

Front desk associates were friendly. Hotel is extremely dog friendly.

I love the Aloft chain! The front desk people were very helpful. Even brought us up ice and input cable for sound system. Loved the little cozy bar. Best mattress and pillows too! Clean and quiet. Not just the same old hotel experience. It is a very reasonable price too.
