“More than just pet friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 9, 2010

We had a dog with us and when some others charged up to $100 for a pet; Comfort Inn only charged $10. The bed was fabulous and the breakfast was better than most. This is an under rated hotel and a nice place.

If you are traveling through Winchester, Virginia do yourself a favor and stay at the Comfort Inn in the Northern end of the city. It is the most friendly, clean, and welcoming motel I have ever stayed at. And I am 75 and have stayed in a lot of motels. It all starts with the Manager. She is a local woman who worked her way to the top. Her happy personality permiates the whole staff. You feel like it is one big happy old fashioned family and that you are a long lost family member come to visit.
The waffle breakfast is sumptious, but most of all the feeling of being welcome is the final and ever adbiding memory we have of Winchester Comfort Inn.

We arrived in Winchester in the late afternoon after many hours on the road. We pulled off the exit and pulled into the first hotel we could find (which will remain nameless). When we got in the room we immediately knew we couldn't stay - it was filthy and disgusting. I called The Comfort Inn and explained our situation. I spoke with Donad who was absolutely wonderful. He had just one more pet room available and saved it for us. We got our money back from the "other" hotel and drove to the Comfort Inn. Donald greeted us so warmly and helped us to quickly get situated. Our room was beautiful and so quiet that we never heard a sound all night. The grounds are incredibly well maintained and they have an extensive pet area. The attached Denny's restaurant is a huge plus. The food was great and the waitress a delight. We had such a restful night that we decided we would like to stay another day. Unfortunately, that was not to be as they were totally sold out. Anyway, kudos to Donald, Patrick and the manager. They couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. I can't imagine anyone being unhappy staying there. Try it out - you won't be disappointed!

The above sentence says it all. Used our choice points and were given a very poor room with noisy traffic all night and could hear conversation in next room. Reception was not a warm one and will not stay there again.

Wow, were we pleased with the customer service.

We had reserved by calling the front desk weeks prior, and had been assured that they had the room we wanted ( quiet double, at the back, on the first floor, and near an exterior door so we could take the dog out). We arrived at 6:45 pm and they had held our room! How rare is that?

There were none of the usual excuses that all the rooms like we had reserved were gone, or we'd have to go somewhere else , or we would have to upgrade to get what we had ordered, etc. Most importantly they had our reservation, and had the room key out and ready for us when we arrived.

It was a nice big room with a table and 2 chairs, fridge and microwave, and a small but adequate bathroom. They had properly sized double beds, not those 1 3/4 sized beds that so many chains pass off as doubles. There was no highway noise in our room (#201), it was at the back, and near an exterior door. There was even a garbage can by the exterior door for doggie "poop" bags disposal, so they are all set up for dogs.

We settled in for the night, and ordered chinese food from the convenient menu in the in-room information folder, while we watched TV (to see if the Health Care bill passed!) They had lots of menus from restaurants there to choose from, with free delivery. Would we stay here again? Definitely!

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention the excellent included hot breakfast with an actual attendant providing eggs, waffles, fruits, yogurt, and much more. She even had diet waffle syrup and skim milk...how thoughtful.

Booked a night en route to Florida based mostly on these reviews. Be aware that this hotel is a good 5 miles from the center of Winchester, and dining is very limited..we opted for the attached Denny's but only due to the exhaustion of a 10 hour drive through the snow storms of the I81 in Pennsylvania and New York.

The hotel and the room we had were clean but the tub was chipped and the bath in need of refreshing. The beds were fine, but the walls were so thin that I could tell the gentleman in the next room had a bladder problem, and could be clearly heard each of the 5 times he visited the toilet during the night.....and I don't mean only when he flushed.

The breakfast was a bit minimal, with the exception of the waffle makers, but it would have been nice to be offered a piece of fresh fruit.

I'd stay again in a pinch, but I would not seek this one out.

Dear Kerry,

I am deeply disappointed with the behavior of your manager, Donald. We are currently staying in the hotel, which allows dogs. There are several dogs in rooms adjacent to ours. This morning, one of this dogs was crying. The sound was coming from one of the rooms in front of ours. Me and my wife left in the morning with our dog, and when we came back, Donald approached us with a very rude and arrogant manner, mentioning that "several guests have complained about our dog and if this continues he would kick us out of the hotel". Not only our dog was not the one barking, and we were not in the room for most of the day, but the most astonishing fact was that the meager, Donald, refused to listen to what I had to say, simply threatening me to "kick me out of the hotel if I argue with him".
