A lovely inn right on the edge of Historic Williamsburg, with friendly and helpful host and staff, filling breakfasts and self-service evening snacks.
The rooms are up a steep flight of stairs (the owner carried up our bags) in a fairly quiet street in the Merchants Square area. The bed was very comfortable and there was a small TV in the room. The en-suite bathroom had a shower, wash basin and toilet and was kept clean during our stay.
The host, Billie Scruggs, was genial and helpful and gave us some excellent sightseeing advice. Some have commented on the lack of variety in the breakfasts, but we found the cooked items tasty and filling, with lovely fruit salad and coffee, served in the homely dining area. In the afternoon/evening there was self-service home-made cookies and lemonade, as well as coffee/tea/hot chocolate.
It was wonderful being so close to the historic area, because, even though we were tired on our arrival at mid-day after a long overnight journey, we were able to look around the histric buildings during the afternoon. Car parking was just accross the street from the inn, which was absolutely fine and we never had any problem getting a space.
One of the main reasons we chose this inn was that, besides being in a convenient location, it was offered in a package deal with Historic Triangle passes. In fact I think we barely broke even on this, compared to individual day tickets, as we only here for 3 nights, and had time for two half day visits to the Colonial Williamsburg area, and one visit each to Jamestown, the Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown, but at least it saved some queing.
Wi-Fi was available but we did not get a good signal in our room (perhaps our PC Wi-Fi is insensitive), but there was no problem connecting in the dining/lounge area.
Although the host does not live in the inn, so was not always present, he is only just over the road and said we could phone anytime day or night if we needed anything, which in fact we did not.
We like the intimacy of a small, personally run inn, in prefecence to a larger tourist chain hotel, so this inn suited us perfectly, and if we are able to return to Williamsburg in future we would certainly stay here again.
