We stayed at this hotel from Dec 31 - Jan 2 and was an excellent hotel for a great price. Everything from the check-in to the amenities to customer service was outstanding. The hotel has happy hour specials and a great restaurant just off the lobby, and a very friendly waitstaff. This hotel is a must-stay for anyone coming to Williamsburg!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn and Suites, Williamsburg -Historic Gateway 29-31 December 2011
We had a queen suite that had a microwave and refrigerator. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. We appreciate the non-smoking environment and my daughter loved the pool. This is our 3rd year staying at this hotel and we like the clean rooms and quiet family atmosphere. 3 Minutes from the Historic Williamsburg Visitor Center - a great location.

This is a very nice hotel - one of the cleanest we've been in (and it passed the white sock test with flying colors!). The main reason I give this hotel 4*s instead of 5 is because it seems like management doesn't know what it wants the hotel's function to be. The room we had was called a "family suite" - yet it was obviously a businessperson's room. There was no place for the "family" to eat - no tables, only one chair by a desk, not even a coffee table. If the parents wanted privacy, well, both beds were in the same room.

Yet, if it's a business person's room - no paper, not even a pen...? And, no coffee in the room? Truthfully, it *looks* like a room for business - a man's suite - the brown and green (more like bottle green) and furniture were all very masculine and look darker with the lighting, which was dim at best. Ceiling lights = depressing.

Beds are perfectly comfortable, and everything seemed to work in the room, the fridge got really cold. Although I wish they'd provide an extra blanket, as well as allow a bit more *room cooling. We were very dehydrated at night, central a/c in hotels tends to be drying, and we could not lower the temperature below "65", In the bedroom part, it was more like 70 degrees, and that's where the thermostat was!

The confusion even extends to the restaurant - they have TVs in the Bistro booths. Guess that's the family part? For the kids? Go figure. Confusing, yes.

We just returned from a few days in Williamsburg, and after reading the reviews here, made reservations at the Holiday Inn. Because I lucked into one of those "you-can't-cancel-even-if-you-die-your-estate-will-pay-for-the-room" rates, my price was even lower than their already reasonable ones. We stayed in a King Suite for less than I'd have paid at many other hotels in the area, and the extra space was a delightful treat.

The hotel is spotlessly clean, beds are comfortable, shower hot and with good pressure, and the staff is delightful. Going into the restaurant in the morning to pick up complimentary coffee was not a hardship, and I appreciated knowing that I wasn't paying a higher room rate for a 'complimentary' breakfast that I probably wouldn't have eaten.

The desk staff had great recommendations for restaurants, and everyone worked hard to make sure our stay was comfortable. My only caution to folks is that the bar closes when the restaurant does - at 9:00. So if you are out later and are going to want a nightcap, make sure to bring your own!

We will be back in Williamsburg in a few months, and will happily return to the Holiday Inn.
