Hampton Inn & Suites Williamsburg Historic District

This was our second stay at this hotel just outside the Historic District. We like this hotel and its location to the Historic District and local restaurants. The main focus of this review is to recognize the outstanding customer service of a very special young man, Jordan Calfee, who could well teach some other hotel staff the proper way to treat their customers. I made reservations some time back for a double-queen room, first floor near the lobby, and only on 1st or 2nd floor. We arrived in our room and began checking the room to make sure everything was in working order but, unfortunately, the fridge would not cool and the A/C would not cool the room enough, so I called Jordan who came down to our room within minutes and checked these two items. He said he would see what he could do to fix the problem and returned asking me if I would like to look at another room in which the A/C and fridge appeared to work fine. I followed Jordan down the hall to another room and to my surprise it was a double-queen suite -- how sweet!! It was so spacious and had a sitting room with an excellent A/C and working fridge. He had upgraded us to a much nicer room (Room 119) at no extra charge. There was also an incident where one of the hotel guests (a child) had an accident on the carpet. I notified Jordan and he personally cleaned up the mess within just a few minutes. Our trip to Williamsburg was an educational grip for our grandson and we all had a wonderful time. Our visit was enhanced by our nice accommodations at this Hampton Inn & Suites. I recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again should we return to Williamsburg. As a side note - and I will review some restaurants we dined at over a 3-day period, one of those being "Food For Thought Cafe" and found it to be a very nice place with personable waiters and waitresses, and of course wonderful food. Be sure to visit the home of Jefferson Davis, "Monticello," which is a short distance from Williamsburg in Charlottesville, VA.

Stayed here for three nights. Overall it was a clean and comfortable hotel. Staff was very friendly. We typically stay at Hampton Inns and this was pretty much what we have come to expect and appreciate. Breakfasts were plentiful and tasty. Coffee available all day. Lots of parking in a great area away from all of the commotion of the bypass road area. Only a couple of issues.. there is an indoor pool here and you smell it as soon as you enter, not a big deal. There was a gross dried smear on the stainless steel in one of the elevators that was there all three nights. I didn't say anything about it because I wanted to see if housekeeping or someone of the staff would address it, no one did. Mgmt needs to encourage anyone on staff to take care of stuff like that. Lastly, there is a Motel next door and one night some of the patrons were a little rowdy. With all that said, I would stay here again. I liked it.

Room Tip: Request a room on the side of the hotel away from the motel/parking lot.

Greeted and assisted by Jordan at the front desk. He was very explanatory and invited us to
enjoy the hot chocolate or coffee. Room was a king with sofa and a good TV. Spacious.
Nice bathroom setup. Second sink with the wet bar. Found the forth floor to be quiet. Attractive breakfast room with good selections in the morning.

Lots of local information in the lobby areas including a sheet with five restaurants. We definitely
enjoyed the two that we tried: the Whaling Company and Food for Thought.

Location is somewhat forest-like. All in all, an enjoyable two night stay.

Friendly and helpful staff! It is very close to Colonial Williamsburg, we only had a 5 minute drive to get to the visitor center. The room was clean and internet fast. The bed was very comfortable with a nice choice of pillow type. The pool area was nice with a small jacuzzi area. Great breakfast with lots of choices. The breakfast staff was amazing! The only con was a noisy low quality hotel next door to the Hampton Inn.

Stayed here for one night. The hotel itself is kind of away from things in Williamsburg (restaurants, shopping) but all of that is within a 10 minute drive. The hotel itself was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was well stocked. The air conditioning in my room, 324, did not seem to be functioning properly. I had the temperature set at 72, but it was rather warm. Also, you can hear anyone out in the hallway and definitely hear the doors closing from other rooms. Once that quieted down, I got a good night's sleep. It is close to Busch Gardens as well (15 minute drive). Would recommend this hotel if you want one that's out of the way from the restaurants and shopping. If that's what you are visiting for though, I would recommend one closer to where the action is.

Very close to Williamsburg and other area attractions. This property gets a lot of heavy use and is often very full so it is less attractive and not quite up to the standard I've found with other Hamptonn Inns. I've stayed there twice now though so if you are going for proximity to Williamsburg with a chain hotel its worth considering. The staff was friendly and helpful despite the crowds especially in the breakfast service area.

We stayed here one weekend for a mini bike and tour weekend. We had a king studio. Here are the hotel pros: easy biking distance to Colonial Parkway; clean room; comfortable bed; nice staff. Here are the hotel cons; surrounded by low-end hotels with noisy patrons in the one next door; pretty bad, limited hot food for breakfast; lots of kids; yelling in the halls and thin walls between rooms; and pretty high price given the time of year and the negative factors. I would try another hotel if I came back to Williamsburg.
