“Oh the Brandade”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

Ok, so if you want to eat outside you are smack against a driveway and parking lot, and inside the tables are little close together but the whole atmosphere is bistro-like and laid back and very country and pleasant. But OH THE BRANDADE. The silky smooth texture of potatoes and salt cod is amazing and it's served with the most wonderful crostade. I'm sure there's heavy cream mixed in, too, but maybe it's only olive oil -- at least that's what I tell myself. One portion -- very reasonably priced - is enough for two at lunch, particularly if coupled with their charcuterie platter which is a super assortment of meats and cornichons with a lovely assortment of condiments. We do this semi-regularly -- oh once every couple months --and each time we come away delighted!

“Blue Talon for French inspired food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

It is my "go to" place for lunch in Colonial Williamsburg. I have eaten at this restaurant for years. The drink selection is very good. The mac and cheese and the pot roast sandwich are my favorites and are very, very filling. The chicken crepe is very good, too. Service is friendly, but very laid back (i.e., you need at least 1.5 hours to dine here). Reservations are recommended.

We so often hear from folks who join us for dinner and don't understand the prompt pace of service that it is really refreshing to have someone suggest to readers that Lunch is quite slow. We are happy to accommodate any style - most of our Lunch folks are in and out quite quickly.

Either way, sounds like you are a fan and for that we are truly grateful and thanks so much for sharing online!

“Great Little Restaurant for Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

Actually, it isn't that little, it just seems cozy when you are in it. We had reservations for a Friday night dinner in January. Even in January, they are busy. Great menu for some pickier eaters in our group of 4, yet still satisfying for the more adventurous eaters. The macaroni and cheese was not Kraft's! I'd hate to see the nutrition info on that dish, but it was outstanding. I had scallops (4) and asparagus salad, both delicious. The roasted chicken got rave reviews and our table neighbors had the Friday night special-Seafood Curry, which they pronounced delicious. Julia Child is cooking away on TV for much of the restaurant to see, either by looking at the mirror in front of you or facing the TV over the kitchen. Check out the match striker on the tables, they are for sale. At $125 it was a bit rich for us, but interesting.

Dessert! We shared burnt sugar ice cream--yum! And a chocolate mousse, which they spoon into your dish table side. 3 HUGE spoonfuls---be sure you are sharing with someone. The 4 of us could not eat it all.

We were so impressed that we went back for breakfast. We should have left it at dinner. The ham biscuits were dry and tasteless. Only 1 kind of tea is offered. Everything was a bit of a disappointment. They do brunch, starting at 11:00, maybe that is better.

But definitely go for dinner.

“Good food, good drinks, great dessert”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

Upon entering the Blue Talon Bistro, you are immediately welcomed by a clean and beautiful restaurant (you've got to see the sinks in the ladies' room). Whether grabbing a drink, dessert or a full meal, it's a great choice. The menu tends to shy away from the 'normal American food', so picky eaters may have a difficult time finding something. The Mac & Cheese is amazing-- I've had it multiple times-- although the last time I had it, it was very watery and not as good as usual. I was back a day or two later and a friend ordered it and it was much better. I had the chicken & mushroom crepes which were very good-- a good comfort food. But really, the desserts are what I can't forget about. The chocolate mousse.... OH MY WORD.... first of all, they serve it at your table and fill your bowl until you say stop. It is the richest, creamiest mousse I have ever had. Although I had a huge bowl full because I was so reluctant to say "stop", I ate every last drop. Amazing! There other desserts are also very tasty.

Maybe we should start a "Mousse Fan Club"! Seriously, we are grateful that you enjoy the desserts as much as you do and want to assure you that - of the seven or eight desserts we offer every night - 100% of them are made in house. We definitely search for "Comfort Food", but there's no reason that can't include old school European dishes as well as American Classics. So, the Chicken Crepes, the Mac & Cheeese, the Boeuf Bourguignon and the amazing Hamburger all hit that same "comfort food" sweet spot.

And there's always Chocolate Mousse!

“A great dining experience after Williamsburg”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

All of the Taverns were full, the guide recommended the Blue Talon, and we took the last table. What a lovely surprise! Delicious and sophisticated food. Nice cozy atmosphere. We were very hungry and found the speed of the service just right. It was nice introduction to French Cuisine for our teenaged daughters. They were able to taste French cuisine with a big city taste, without the big city fussiness, and loved it. The prices were on par for dining in Colonial Williamsburg. We enjoyed an upscale dinner, very conveniently located.

I think we were the lucky ones! Thanks for finding us and for raising kids that are willing to try new things! You scared us with the reference to "upscale" but you stopped short of using the "F" word - "Fine Dining". We like the big city feel and hope that we are able to keep it laid back and casual while still being extremely serious about our commitment to quality.

Thanks for noticing!
