Description: Food For Thought is a family restaurant in Williamsburg, Virginia, that’s as engaging for the mind as it is for the senses. Surrounded by quotes and images of inventors, scientists, and social leaders, our atmosphere aims to inspire families and encourage discussion over wholesome, delicious food. Food For Thought’s menu is as diverse as the great thinkers themselves. Our diner’s choices vary from American classics, ethnic dishes, healthy vegetarian options, or one of our nightly seafood specialties. The foundation of our menu is built upon American staples like our famous Fork Tender Pot Roast, Grandma’s Meatloaf, and “fall off the bones” ribs. America grew up on these meals, and we love paying homage to our country’s past. To complement these favorites, we added some newer, more contemporary flavors and ideas like Pad Thai, Jamaican jerk chicken, flavored butters, and original vegetarian dishes. To ensure everyone finds something they love, we also provide a gluten-free menu, a kid’s menu (with healthy options!) and our “Magic 55” senior’s menu. Our food is prepared with love and served with pride. A truly wonderful meal is a combination of good food and good conversation -- so talk about the special people featured here. Talk about the contributions that these people have made to the world! Have a meaningful conversation about how everyone can be great in his or her own way.

We ate here twice on our week-long stay! Food is fresh tasting and service is very nice. The menu has a lot of variety. The question cards provided some good thought-provoking questions, perfect for getting to know my dad more in our father/daughter trip.

We needed to find a dinner spot central to the outlets and Colonial Williamsburg. FDT was rated highly in TripAdvisor so we gave it a whirl, and we are glad we did. We showed up just before 5, which worked well because we didn’t have to wait and it wasn’t yet too busy. Our server was phenomenal...attentive but not too buggy, our drinks were always full, she was friendly but professional. The food was delicious. I’d say it’s an upscale twist on American favorites, with a few more exotic dishes to choose from. From burgers to ribs, from chicken to meatloaf, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our bill, with four entrees, a few sodas, and a kids’ meal, was $110, including tip.

this restaurant had been recommended by a friend. It exceeded all expectations. Food was good. Service was excellent. We went the next morning for breakfast only to be told that they don't do breakfast during the week. The manager came out and talked to us and actually recommended a couple of good alternatives for breakfast. Very impressed with the whole operation.

We had passed this restaurant several times on our vacation and noticed it was ALWAYS busy so decided to try it. we went mid afternoon and was able to get a parking place on site. We were told there was at least a 20 minute wait so we decided to stay. We were seated in 10 minutes, the hostess was amazing keeping everything moving and instructing people about not parking in the next door business or they would get towed while keeping the tables moving. We were seated near the kitchen, not my usual choice but in this case it gave me a view of a working kitchen (there was a window) that never stopped. The waiter was prompt and showed us the menu and described it's layout which was a bit different. Meanwhile, amazing looking food was flying out of the kitchen past our table. We placed our orders and had our meals in about 15 minutes. The speed the kitchen was working at in a small confined area that I could see was phenomenal, as soon as a server brought a tray in it was filled with the next order to be delivered. The food was fresh, hot and tasty and we had a great meal (my partner had bacon wrapped scallops and I had the Crab-a-bella). We were in and out within an hour but did not feel rushed. The line to get in was out the door and in the parking lot when we left. Highly recommend meals here.
