This chef trained with Lenny, owner of Hayashi in Newport News, Hampton, and formally in Williamsburg. It was absolutely wonderful. This is as delicious. We've had sushi all over the world and this is at the top of the list. The service was prompt and friendly.

Who would ever know that Williamsburg has great sushi? This place does!!!

The Bento Box lunch is a great way to try things, and the food is great!!!

Soya, our favorite restaurant in Williamsburg, closed due to family issues, and in its place came Sushiya. We were hopeful, but it turned out that this place is a very poor imitation of a real sushi restaurant. The first time we went, we waited 25 minutes for a waiter and one never came, even though the place was not crowded and there were three servers wandering around at tables near us. No water, no menus, no nothing. We got up and left. We decided to try them again a month later and the woman recognized us and gave my wife a hug for returning, apologizing for the lack of service the first visit. We were hopeful. The sushi was adequate, and we got a few nice freebies to make up for our first visit. So we visited again a couple of weeks later. The first lady who hugged my wife wasn't there that day, so no special treatment, just bad sushi. The rice was both gummy and crunchy simultaneously, nothing had any flavor, and the service had returned to being mediocre. We used to bring our friends and relatives from New York to Soya (the restaurant that used to be there originally), and they all loved it. If New Yorkers who eat sushi on a regular basis come to Williamsburg and WANT to go to a sushi place, you know it's good. Those days are gone. Well, it'll be cheaper for us to not eat out in the long run...

It is a restaurant split into two parts, sushi bar and hibachi. We chose the non-touristy sushi side. Very nice area and staff. They were very friendly and amusing. Service was a little slow but was a hot day and they were very busy. It enabled us to slow down and enjoy our experience!!! Which by the way was great!!! The sushi was expertly prepared and the Fireman roll was the best of the 4 rolls we had. I cannot say enough good about this restaurant. It is the old Soya Sushi Bar, it has the same menu. I cannot say enough good about this Sushi Bar!!!
