Know that this site is not the actual site and is a recreation. That said, I imagine kids would find this more palatable and probably a number of adults. It has very informative exhibits with knowledgeable staff.

The restaurant is a bit disappointing, as the fair is your standard fast food but at inflated prices.

I wasn't sure what this place would be like, after visiting Colonial Williamsburg I had high standards. I was not disappointed! The displays were great, well designed and built. Not for young kids though, middle schoolers and up should get a lot out of this venue.

This is a RECREATION of the Jamestown Fort, Powhatan Indian Village, and Susan Constant ship.

And that's great because you can walk thru all three living exhibits, talk with superb interpretive guides, and experience real life 500 years ago. For example, on the Susan Constant, I learned (from the guide hanging out in the back of the ship) the difference between a tiller and a whipstaff, and why there was no ship's wheel on the ship.

OK, I'm a history geek who prefers to learn on site because it's SO fun and memorable!

SUPER IMPORTANT! Do this site BEFORE Historic Jamestown.

In elementary school, I remember reading all about Pocahontas and about the English settlers who were developing the colonies. However, it really came alive for me to see the actors in costume and to also see recreations of the Indian villages and the culture of the European settlers and their ships too. History is so awesome! If you are into learning, this is the place to visit for sure...

There is an excellent museum that starts you at the beginning of the first settlement with interesting facts and artifacts. The settlement recreation is good with plenty of interaction with the period characters & lastly the boat replicas of what the settlers came to America on
