A visit to Colonial Williamsburg is not complete without a tour of this museum. My advise is to leave yourself lots of time. It's bigger than it looks from the outside. We saved it for late in the day and split it into two days because it stays open after the rest of the Colonial Williamsburg sites and activities are over for the day.

Guides suggest to allow at least an hour for the Folk and DeWitt Wallace combined museums. We'd recommend much more. We spent 3 hours, including a 30 minute tour of highlights and that long at a wonderful Irish-American music history performance and didn't have time for everything. The museums are on the Williamsburg shuttle so if you're there for multiple days, it might be worthwhile planning to alternate visits with stops in the village. A large variety of exhibits well laid out and marked. Pleasant cafe; comfortable seating lounges; gift shop. Quilts, silver, furniture, costumes, weaponry, colonial tools and building methods, dishes, coffee and tea gear, tall case clocks, weather vanes, portraits.

We have been here several times over the years. Every time the folk art is different. You do have to be into this particular type of art. Depending on your likes, it is either fascinating or boring.

All four of us adults loved this museum. So much to see! The exhibit of weather vanes and whirligigs was wonderful, and I loved the exhibit on Baltimore quilts. I think that's a temporary exhibit. We all found many things to entertain and intrigue us. I could have spent several hours, and then gone back again. It is truly a gem.

We went there as a part of the Colonial Jamestown ticket. Only spent an hour there as part of a folk art tour. It was great. We would liked to have gone back.
